Southern peonies at Chiltmore garden party. Each May, my friend Pat throws a gala for her blooming tree (Stewartia). Her super talented daughter Julianne puts together arrangements like this from whatever’s in the yard 🌷🦋💚 #southernliving #gardenparty #bloomingtree #stewartia #peonies

The new carriage house/workshop is happening 😎what do you think of the antique Victorian rafter tails? Douglas amazes me figuring all this out 💛#salvagedwood #victorianstyle #heartpine #trammellhouse #mastercarpenter #metropolitanrestoration
Happy Friday 💕 pink roses from an abandoned yard that bloom around Mother’s Day every year. Sadly, this is the last time I’ll enjoy cuttings as the property has been sold and will be paved over soon #roadsideflowers #trammellhouse #bruceandmorgan #historicpreservation
Those original columns! That original terra-cotta floor! Shouldn’t a dream porch like this be required for every home 😎? This one’s in beautiful Druid Hills, Atlanta, and was the original home of famed architect J. Neel Reid (1885-1926). Built in 1914 and as lovely 100+ years later. Classic design never ages 💚☀️🌷✨💚 Happy Friday, y’all 💛💛💛💛💛 #historicpreservation #thisplacematters #southernporches #southernliving #neelreid #neelreidarchitecture #druidhills #classicarchitecture

🌞Happy Sunday, y’all🌞Independent Presbyterian Church (1891), Savannah, Georgia 🌞Congregation organized in 1755. Known as the mother church of Georgia Presbyterians. Original church (1819) designed by Rhode Island architect John Holden Greene and destroyed by fire in 1889. The original plan was duplicated by architect William G. Preston and erected two years later. The marble baptismal font survived the fire and is used today. The church is in an opening scene of “Forest Gump.”💛🌞💛 #historicarchitecture #historicchurch #historicsavannah #historicpreservation #visitsavannah #visitsavannah

💕The George L. Taber azaleas are in full bloom this week at the 1887 L.N. 💕Windows of Savannah 💕 swipe for closeups 💕The stunning Green-Meldrim House (built early 1850s) was occupied by Gen. Sherman during the War Between the States. This is one of the South’s best examples of Gothic-Revival architecture and was the most expensive house of its time ($93,000). Built for Charles Green. Designed by John Norris. Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1976. Add it to your “must-tour” list when visiting Savannah 🌸🌸🌸💃🌸🌸🌸 #historicpreservation #greenmeldrimhouse #historicsavannah #saveoriginalwindows #nationallandmark #gothicrevival #gothicrevivalarchitecture #interiorthursdays #oldhouselove #archi_ologie #visitsavannah

🏛💛The Black Belt area of Alabama is beautiful with hundreds of spectacular historic homes. Far too many are waiting for a Cinderella moment when a benefactor will appreciate their grandeur, elegance, and history and choose them over the homogeneous, nondescript houses (with no definable style) that are currently in vogue. Too many are dismissed as “beyond repair” and “too expensive” because of a lack of understanding, indifference, or the sin of familiarity and wanting something new. We spent 3 delightful days touring and documenting dozens of them with our good friend Mike Kitchens @mike_kitchens_gofg. I was excited to see two on the same day with Carolina porches aka rain porches where columns or porch posts extend beyond the floor and shield it from rain. It protects the floor from weather and because the supports sit on the ground, the weight of heavy columns is eliminated. And the porch gets more shade. All very clever for the Sunny South🌞This example is of Oak Side (c. 1852), a Greek Revival, Orrville, Alabama 🌞🌞🌞 #historicarchitecture #historichomes #historicpreservation #historicalabama #southernporches #greekrevivalarchitecture #greekrevival #oldhouselove #deserve2preserve #archi_ologie #alabamablackbelt #alabamahistorichomes #ruralalabama
