Due to router bits being round, a stopped groove will naturally leave a round end. So a square ended filler won’t seat all the way down. Lucky for me I get to do some slow and quiet chisel work. Square the hole, then register against the bevels to continue the dovetail to the end. #woodworking#wood#walnut#handmade#dillonwoodworks#dovetail
I was able to make some progress on the boxes yesterday. The lid is one solid piece and I needed to keep it flat. I didn’t want to disrupt the simple look with breadboards or anything so I made some sliding dovetails on the underneath and I will fill them with ash to match the sides. #woodworking#dovetail#joinery#handmade
Remembering to post my process. This is the final leg shape and my arsenal to accomplish it. Really loving hand tools lately. There’s more soul involved and it’s faster once you get the hang of it. Also it’s an advantage in my eyes for the piece to have very slight variance. It shows human hands were involved in an age of automation. #woodworking#handmade#handtools#walnut#bartersystem#spokeshave#scraper
The wife and I had a brainstorming session. My idea for a lid wasn’t going to work. My sketches usually live in my head and end up with problems when they enter the real world. I have a solid plan now and I’m happy with it.
