Currently at 8.5 weeks out from the #vanpro2018 show. My body is healthy. My mind is positive. My heart is grateful. •
•
As a side note: Although I am capable of maintaining a full time job, spending two hours a day training in the gym, and expressing that this is physically and mentally the best I've ever felt, my GI still encourages me to get on big pharmaceuticals every time I visit. He believes that biologics are necessary for me to have a life that remains surgery free. I believe I have a quality of life that is so high that such a decision would make zero logical sense. His words... "Without this medication your future with Crohns doesn't look encouraging". My words... "Bullshit, watch me". • @freakfitnessonline @freakmaker1

According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, gene activity can change on a daily basis. If the perception in your mind is reflected in the chemistry of your body, and if your nervous system reads and interprets the environment and then controls the blood’s chemistry, then you can literally change the fate of your cells by altering your thoughts.
•
“It’s a complex situation,” said Dr. Lipton. People have been programmed to believe that they’re victims and that they have no control. We’re programmed from the start with our mother and father’s beliefs. So, for instance, when we got sick, we were told by our parents that we had to go to the doctor because the doctor is the authority concerning our health. We all got the message throughout childhood that doctors were the authority on health and that we were victims of bodily forces beyond our ability to control. •

The new science of epigenetics promises that every person on the planet has the opportunity to become who they really are, complete with unimaginable power and the ability to operate from, and go for, the highest possibilities, including healing our bodies and our culture and living in peace ✌ #competingwithcrohns #gratitude #epigenetics •

Personal growth has always been something that's important to me, and I've seeked out therapy, books, meditation courses, yoga and audiotapes over the years in hopes of having those "aha moments". Never before have I encountered anything that has been as impactful in such a short period of time as this book. I share this because I think we are all looking for a greater sense of inner peace, personal growth, and self-love/acceptance on some level. And so I leave this here, in hopes that if someone too seeks these kinds of things in their life, that it may offer them as much insight as it has offered me ♥ #competingwithcrohns

Time for another product I love 💜 Phytoberry has a blend of over 40 plant based ingredients that include berry and fruit concentrates, phytonutrients and plant oils. The product is designed to act as a whole body antioxidant and is free from artificial flavours, colors and sweeteners. I mix a scoop with my powdered greens and drink with breakfast ... taste is 💣! I don't get to eat a lot of fruit so this helps to fill those nutritional gaps and doesn't bother my Crohns in the least!👌And nope...im not sponsored or affiliated with the company...just love the product 😊#competingwithcrohns

"This isn't simply about aesthetics. This is about living my best life. My body used to control me. Competing allows me to control my body. I get to tell it what to look like, how to move, what to do. Those with IBD probably understand on every single level just how empowering that concept really is."

Early on in my diagnosis I lived from a place of fear and anger. I felt I no longer owned my body, Crohns Disease did; and for that I felt it had delivered me the ultimate betrayal. •
•
I think it's hard not to; we're all guilty of it on some level - but we often just assume our life will go a certain way. When it goes another way we fight it. We had a vision for going left and instead the universe decides to take you right. •
•
The minute I decided to stop fighting what was, accept there was a different plan for me, and begin to fight instead for what could be; regardless of the roadblocks put in front of me - that was when I regained control of my life. •
•
The why might not always be clear. The path might seem dark at times but YOU ARE POWERFUL regardless of what obstacles life puts in your way. Often it's those same obstacles, the ones we think make us weak, that actually make us most powerful - if we allow them to. ♡ #competingwithcrohns

Well....tomorrow's the day I've been waiting 9 long months for! Tomorrow begins my 16 week journey to the stage for one more kick at the can (does anyone say that ever?! 🤷)?! It's been 36 long weeks of offseason (and dark Canadian winter 😷) and I'm excited to get back into the strict dieting and training regime for what I know will see me bringing my best package to the stage to date. 💜
💜
Competing has been a huge part of my life for the last 4 years and I'm so grateful that my body continues to allow me to do what I love. As I always say, I've won before I've even stepped on the stage simply because I can do what I love day in and day out. This isn't just a 16 week thing, it's a life thing and I'm so fortunate to be able to get up and pursue this dream on a daily basis.
💜
💜
I've been pretty MIA but my intent was to always use the Competing with Crohns platform to share what my life is like during a prep and the daily emotions, struggles and preparation that goes into this. I'll be updating my website with blogs more frequently (link in bio if you're interested in following along) and my social media here on Instagram and on my Facebook page 'Competing with Crohns'. Something about prep that always gets me outta my hermit like shell 🙄😂
💜
💜
Thank you to each one of you that continues to support this journey of mine 🙏 And to all those other #ibdwarriors out there that demonstrate such courage and strength on a daily basis...you inspire me to live my best life....thank you 💜 Here we go! 💜💪 #competingwithcrohns @freakfitnessonline @freakmaker1

Another product I ♡ - Marshmallow Root. ~
~
As a firm believer in naturopathic medicine, and what I believe to be an over reliance on pharmaceuticals in Western medicine; I'm always eager to share any information on natural remedies that promote healing. I whole heartedly believe in the power of herbs and supplements and this one here is on my top 5. ~
~
Marshmallow preparations help soothe irritated mucous membranes and can benefit those with Crohns or Colitis. Marshmallow promotes healing of inflamed lesions in the gastrointestinal tract by coating the mucosa with a protective gel, thereby reducing inflammation. As everyone's experience is different with IBD, always do your research before using new herbs and supplements to ensure their use is right for you. For more products I love check out the permanent "PRODUCTS I ♡" section under my bio!! #competingwithcrohns 💜 .

Our lives don't need to be validated by anyone other than our own selves. What people think about me, this disease, or how I choose to manage it is none of my business. It's a daily choice to not let the negativity of others bother us, and I can guarantee you there's not a better decision to make for your own personal wellbeing than letting that stuff not even register on your radar. Send light and love to those that wish you well and extra light and love to those that may not. Focus your energy instead on what you need to do for you to have a happy and fulfilled life....all that other stuff is simply noise. #competingwithcrohns 💜 .

Just a little reminder to #keepyourheadup ♡ •
•
Keep that head up because even if today is a bit tough, you never know what tomorrow holds. •
•
Last week I was feeling sick. If anyone knows me they know that I don't take sick days from work. I think Crohns Disease makes me push myself even harder sometimes and I see taking sick days as admitting defeat to this disease...some won't agree with this mentality, but it is what it is.
I ended up taking an afternoon off of work. All the symptoms of Crohns were back and my initial reaction was complete anxiety...is it back? Will I be able to compete? Is this a hospital visit? What did I eat or do wrong? What if I need a surgery?....You can see where this negative thinking was going...
•
•
So I took a step back, took an afternoon off work, took both my rest days from the gym back to back and just let my body rest. I didn't think about the what ifs, the whys or the hows...I refocused my mind on being grateful, allowed my body to be tired, and believed that it would pass...and thankfully - it did. •
•
My point is that no matter what circumstance you have been dealt in life, there is great power in what you do or do not give your power to. I could have chosen to live in the worry and the what ifs. Instead I fought to stay positive, and keep my mind out of the negative thoughts that could have easily occupied my mind, my body and my energy. •
•
Strive to be mindful of where your self talk is at and where your thoughts go. So much of our existence is determined on how we think and what we believe. Your thoughts become energy and your energy can greatly determine your sense of well being. Wishing you all the best for the week ahead 💜 @j9_fit #competingwithcrohns #positivitymatters #attitudeofgratitude .

So I wasn't going to compete this year. I guess I felt like I had to choose between competing and "normal life". A solid month of indecision was the worst. Both decisions had pros, both had cons. The fact is that competing is my passion... I love this life. Yeah I know...I can still train and eat healthy and not compete but the truth is competing brings out a side of me that only competing can. I learn, I grow, I cry, I get proud, I feel so alive. I get excited, determined, angry, happy, irritated, motivated...you name it and prep has me feelin it. 🌟
🌟
But there's more to it than all of that. See I have this thing called Crohns Disease. And Crohns Disease has tried to control my body and my life for the last 20 years. Competing reminds me just how grateful I am. It reminds me I'm grateful to even have this choice to make. I'm grateful that my body has cooperated through 5 shows. I'm grateful that today I'm in control. In control of my body and my life. And so here's to choosing to do show number 6. 🙌🙌🙌 Here's to doing what I've been told I couldn't do . But most of all; here's to having already won without even ever having to step on stage.

Been MIA which I apologize for but will explain in a later post. Today though I want to talk about a product I love which is NutraVege Omega 3. I use this twice daily as Omega 3 fatty acids have been suggested to have beneficial implications in the maintenance of remission in chronic inflammatory disorders such as Crohn's Disease. I like the plant based formula as it's a more sustainable choice and I also just can't be sure about the potential inclusion or effects from toxins like methyl mercury that can be found in certain fish that ultimately diminish the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. My personal favourite flavour is lemon 🍋🍋🍋 Do you supplement with omega 3 and have you found it to be beneficial in symptoms?! Let me know your thoughts!! 👇 #competingwithcrohns

To me there is no better place in the world. I credit a third of my remission to diet and another third to exercise. The gym has literally saved my life on so many levels. I know a lot of people say working out makes them feel worse...and it did for me too ...at first, but just like with anything new; adjusting takes time. FUN FACT: Even when I've been in the middle of a severe flare, I have never experienced symptoms of Crohns Disease in the gym. Makes ya think 🤔 I always just believed my mind and body were too busy being in the moment training to remember it was even sick. That's my theory anyways. 💜 Anyone wanna guess what I credit the last one third of my remission to?! Comment below and share if and how exercise has helped your symptoms 👇#competingwithcrohns

In today's blog post I speak about eliminating negative energy from your life as a means to improving overall health and well being.  Part of that post speaks to toxic relationships and the potential they have to turn a negative external environment into a negative internal environment real quick. •
•
Toxic relationships can be devestating to not only your psychological health, but your physical health as well. Even though it was years ago, and I'm in such a healthy and happy place now, I can personally attest to just how damaging these behaviours and their energy can become.  Often as the toxic relationship develops we may see red flags, hear half truths or even turn a blind eye to behaviour that goes directly against our core values and beliefs.  Sometimes we just get too consumed with the idea of what someone could be instead of acknowledging who they actually are. The toxic behaviour gets swept under the rug and so it grows and festers. •
•
Maybe you've been in a toxic relationship, maybe you haven't; maybe you're in one right now. If you are, I ask you this..is it worth it?  And if so, at what expense? Your values? Your beliefs? Your self-esteem?  Your health? You can't be in a toxic relationship and expect to have a healthy mind, body, or life. I've been there. I know what losing myself in a relationship feels like.  I know what it feels like to walk on egg shells and the unrelenting stress that contributes to your daily life.  I've been told I'm not good enough.  I've been told no one else would ever want me.  I've been manipulated, used, lied to, cheated on, and called every name in the book.  I've felt stuck, confused, and hopeless.  These behaviours and feelings made my mind fragile and my body ill. I was living and breathing toxic energy and my body knew it. My body felt it, and therefore much like the toxic behaviour itself, my Crohns disease grew and worsened.

In today's blog post I speak about eliminating negative energy from your life as a means to improving overall health and well being.  Part of that post speaks to toxic relationships and the potential they have to turn a negative external environment into a negative internal environment real quick. • • Toxic relationships can be devestating to not only your psychological health, but your physical health as well. • • Maybe you've been in a toxic relationship, maybe you haven't; maybe you're in one right now. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS

Excerpt from my blog: Google search about IBD and diet brings up a popular and well used medical website where it goes on to state that: “while fast foods should normally be avoided in a healthy diet plan, sometimes they can give your diet a needed boost. Some fast foods can offer a valuable supply of key nutrients and calories. For instance, pizza offers nutrients such as calcium and vitamins. A milkshake is high in calories and calcium”. I read this and just wonder how this is ever acceptable? I understand that malnutrition can be a serious and dangerous side-effect of IBD, but pizza and a milkshake as a calorically/nutrient dense option? Is this the best we can do for people? I. Just. Don’t. Understand. • link to full post in bio 💜
