Trying to be more intentional and in the moment, which means my posting isn’t consistent. True confessions: I am painting everyday, working on my mindfulness everyday and struggling in the mediation everyday goal. Two out of three ain’t bad, right?! It’s so interesting how I keep receiving reminders from the universe to practice and build my meditation muscles. Nudge nudge come on Trace you need this meditation thing. Tell me how do you practice mindfulness? Do you meditate everyday?
Playing with new texture ideas this morning in the studio. (Actually started last night in a frenzy of creativity cutting up a burlap bag at 9). I only have 3 hours today so trying to make it count. I’ve had burlap on my brain for a while now so it feels liberating to experiment with my idea , hold it in my hands and move it from thought to process. Can you relate? I wonder where this will go? Does it even really matter, it’s pouring out and I’m doing it for the process. It feels good too!! Day 16 & 17 of my #100daysoftextureart
My most natural colour palette, my first and most favourite (especially with a pop of red). Earth tones are so warm and calming, this one is like a walk through the forest; touching tree bark, water running over rocks and feeling the power of the earth. It’s Day 13, 14 &15 of my #100daysofart project. What do you see and feel? Update: This painting sold on the weekend 💃
We are back into winter for a few days, woke up to a dusting of snow and cold temps. If it was December I would be gushing with over flowing love for the beauty of it all but it’s April and I want my spring blooms darn it all. But hey we’re Canadians and the show must goes on right (because we are tough 💪 like that)!! So Ottawa peeps, come out to Manotick for a fun adventure- the last day of the art show is today from 10:30-4:30 then check out #manotickvillage . I promise great things!! This little textured mini will be there (Day 12/100 in my #100daysofart challenge) along with so much more gorgeous art. Are you still crying about the snow even after my mini pep talk??
Good morning Saturday, it’s going to be a fantastic day...I can just feel it!! This sneak peek of texture is Day 11/100 and has a bit of everything - medium, collage, scrapes and marks. So much yumminess!! I’m at the Manotick Art Show today from 10:30-4:30, so Ottawa friends come drop by and say hello. I ❤️❤️ visitors, plus you get to see some of these bits of texture in full. I’ll leave you with this quote from my #youareabadass book - “In order to kick some ass you must first lift up your foot” by Jen Sincero. Deep thoughts 😉💃
Creating texture with my collection of circles, slightly obsessed with circles over here. Day 10/100 and I’m finding my groove, playing more, having fun. These circles were actually created with rusty bits I found on my family’s farm in northern Ontario, yes we actually have rust & texture field trips!! I love the way each one is unique and it pulls up the medium so I can layer and play with glazes and colours. On a side note for my Ottawa people: I’m in the Manotick Art Show all weekend, starts tomorrow night. Scroll here and look at my stories for all the details. Ok now back to circles; who else is into the power of circles and red?❤️?
I’m officially a BADASS, painted for 5 hours today and finished 11 paintings!!! Me back is killing. Here’s Day 7 & 8 of my #100daysoftextureart , plus a bonus #9 cause I’m so flipping happy that I finally finished some paintings. Hallelujah (I’m singing this from the roof top) @jensincero I’m already feeling my awesomeness from reading your book, feeling so much lighter. Your words speak to me so deeply. Who else has read You Are a Badass, and how did it transform your life?? I am soooo into this book right now so let’s talk.
Layers and layers, adding depth and interest. Trying new colours and techniques on Day 6/100. Today is about exploring and being present; being intentional with my thoughts. Celebrating little moments and redirecting self criticism. Can anyone else relate? What’s your focus today?
Productive Mondays feel good, hello week I’m ready to take you on!! Dreaming of warm water and long swims at the lake. Working away at my #100daysofpainting plus I reorganized my studio to make this challenge flow better. #getting there 💙
Playing with subtle colour tones and combinations that make me smile . Only fit in a short painting session for Day 4 this morning. Me and my #goldenpaints , paste and #liquitex palette knife had to be quick. I wonder if I’ll paint on the weekend (I don’t normally)? Is it illegal to miss a day or two on my #100daysofart project? Haha there’s no rules silly, except play with paint and textures - that’s it that’s all. Happy Friday friend!!
Texture details from a larger piece I’m working on. Teal and greys on a 30x30 for my Day 3. Hmmm, #the100dayproject is going to be loooong unless I get myself more organized. Give me your best advice for managing this type of challenge. Who else is taking on the 100 days? Or maybe you’ve done it in the past, either way hit me with some hot tips.
I almost forgot to post Day 2 if the #the100dayproject -yikes what a spaz!! I haven’t been posting as regularly on IG this year, so I’ll have to up my posting game. I promise that I painted today, 4 hours actually and it felt great. Lots of texture and lively bright colours flying (literally) around the studio. Today was a messy day!! It seems I’m into blues, aqua, pinks and purples.
Ok stake in the ground, I am doing the #the100dayproject challenge starting today!! Eeek, I’m kinda freaking out over here and honestly have been thinking about backing out all day. Then I remembered my own advice — I am scared and unsure AND I am determined to meet this challenge. My focus will be experimenting with new colours and textures with #100daysoftextureartSo here I go @elleluna and @lindsayjeanthomson
Come on spring, warm up a little faster! Who’s ready for the weekend, any big or little plans? We are hoping to do some maple syruping (not really a word) at a family sugar shack so need those temperatures to raise. Happy weekend friends😊
Back from a warm sunny get away in Florida. I love painting and collecting shells, can you tell. I took a complete iphone break, no social media, no emails, no camera...it was wonderful. Good for my soul and I feel so much more centred, plus back into reading again. I read Little Fires Everywhere and That Night, both 👍Hit me with your best most recent reads.
It’s winter again in Ottawa, so beautiful with a fresh blanket of the white stuff. Everything looks pure and crisp again, a fresh start, a do over, a clean slate. Although escaping south sounds pretty tempting too!! I might be into some sunshine and warmth, let’s just say you could twist my arm!!
