Meet Zoe Wilmoth, she will be receiving her Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

Zoe says: “Something that was instilled upon me from a young age, both from my upbringing and from the school I grew up in (@strathconatweedsmuir), was the importance of kindness, and helping others. I was lucky enough to grow up in an environment where helping other people was encouraged and opportunities to help people were always available. My interest in volunteering and helping my community and the world at large started very early on in my life, and I know this comes from the way I was raised. Clubs such as the ‘Humanitarian Outreach Program’ and ‘Environment Club’ were important parts of my elementary school career and I always looked forward to participating in. I also began volunteering outside of school years ago and have had many different experiences such as volunteering in a Library and at the @ymcacalgary as a volunteer swim instructor.” Congratulations on your achievement Zoe, keep up the amazing work! 🤩👍🎉

Meet Bobbi Horne, she will be receiving her Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

Bobbi says: “I was in Sea Cadets for seven years which is where I was first informed about the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program and how I got into participating in the Award. Since aging out of Sea Cadets, my sister and I have successfully held an inaugural annual benefit concert and are in the process of planning the next one for this year. The picture I chose is a picture of my sister, my niece and myself sorting some of the bottles that we collected from neighbours to fund our benefit concert.” Congratulations on your achievement Bobbi! 👍🎉🎶

Meet Dyson Kunyk, he will be receiving his Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

Dyson says: "I have lived with my grandparents in Edmonton for most of my life. It was my grandparents that instilled strong senses of adventure and responsibility in me. Some of my favourite memories are of mushroom hunting with my grandfather in early fall. I am very interested in the natural sciences and hope to investigate them further through university and, hopefully, through my career. Furthermore, I have a strong love for playing classical and jazz music on my trombone, inside school activities and in my own time. I am happy that the Duke of Edinburgh program has provided a framework from which I have found a balance in my life between my loves for the outdoors, academics, and music. "

Congratulations on your achievement Dyson, way to experience adventure! 🍄🍂🌳

Loving Zach Williams song "Fear is Liar" 🎶 and it is absolutely true. We walk by faith not by sight. It doesn't say we walk by fear. The bible also says "Fear not, for I am with you" says the Lord. So I've got no reason to fear.

Meet Jeremy Chan, he will be receiving his Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!
Jeremy says: "I am a Grade 11 student attending Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Alberta. Along with my studies, I’ve enjoyed challenging myself in playing my alto saxophone in the school symphonic band and our Blue jazz band – which are both held before and after school. I have taken art lessons and painted a number of different landscapes in acrylic. I am currently in a competitive climbing team and train 3 times weekly in hopes of improving my abilities. Between these activities, I have enjoyed volunteering at seniors residences with playing card games, or at children’s camps in Calgary through Youth Central. I’ve recently taken the position of president in our school Rotary – Interact club and last year we collected used household items for new refugee families. The Duke of Edinburgh Award has motivated me to refine and improve on things that I already enjoy doing." Congratulations on your achievement Jeremy! 🎷🖼️🧗‍♂️

Meet David Bell, he will be receiving his Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

David says: "I am a seventeen year old student in the eleventh grade @sprucegrovecomp in @cityofsprucegrove. I completed the Silver Duke of Edinburgh award in June of 2017 with my Venture Scout Company in St. Albert. I first joined scouting in 2008 as a Cub Scout with an interest in camping and volunteering. I continued to stay with the program for nearly a decade and continue to help my community in various different ways. Working on Duke of Edinburgh Award has taught me the importance of working in groups and individually towards different goals such as planning trips for adventurous journeys, playing team sports like curling or working towards specific goals in completing individual skills. This award has helped me become a better citizen in my everyday life. I plan to use what I have learned in completing this award to help me with my future education in Forestry." Meet Saren Bradshaw, she will be receiving her Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

Saren says: "First of all, I have to say that my journey with the Duke of Edinburgh Award so far has been a memorable one! I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to participate in this program, it has been a great way to get out and do things I’ve always wanted to do as well as consciously take time to serve others. As for myself, I am a grade 11 student at Hillcrest Christian School and I enjoy a wide-variety of hobbies that include (but are not limited to) scuba diving, horseback riding, surfing, drawing, writing, singing, and playing guitar. The Duke of Edinburgh Award has helped motivate me in improving these skills and other things I am passionate about. This has been a fantastic adventure! I am very excited about starting my Gold soon. I am most definitely thankful to my teachers Curtis Smith-Giesbrecht and Heidi Ambros, as well as Robin Webster; you guys are awesome, and your enthusiasm has been contagious. I’ve loved working with you. And last but not least, I thank the people at Duke of Ed for their devotion to this program." Congratulations on your achievement Saren and good luck on your Gold! 👩‍🎨✍️🎨 .

This award has given me excuses to try new sports and get out and help more people. It has made me think outside the box and consider options for helping others on a global level, not just in my own community. I am very excited for all the opportunities that the Gold Award level will bring. I am thrilled to plan both my Residential Project and my Adventurous Journey. I hope to implement both rock climbing and backpacking into my Adventurous Journey. For my Residential Project I would like to travel abroad, learn a new language and help people in any way I can. I’ve appreciated all the support I’ve had as I have progressed through this award from @robynwebster88, and my teachers, Curtis Smith-Giesbrecht and Heidi Ambros." Congratulations on your achievement Maya and good luck on your Gold! 🙌🏄‍♀️🏕️

Meet Matthew Lu, he will be receiving his Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

Matthew says: "Currently I am a grade 11 full IB student at Old Scona Academic High School. One of the first students to achieve Silver, I started a DoE group at Old Scona. Born and raised in Edmonton, I have always been fascinated by the outdoors. I’ve spent many summers camping with friends and family and experiencing life in the outdoors. As well, I’ve played a couple sports in my time. I went through soccer, basketball, and table tennis, before settling on my current favourite, badminton. As well in my time I picked up speech and debate, an activity that I enjoy a lot. I also enjoy helping others. I’ve also regularly volunteered since I was 10 years old. From volunteering my time at my church, to serving as the president of LinkCC, an organization that helps international students adapt to Canadian culture, I love to give back to my community." Congratulations on your achievement Matthew! 🗣️🏸🙌

Meet Connor Nichols, he will be receiving his Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

Connor says: "I was born on May 28, 2000 in Edmonton. I share my Birthday with my identical twin brother Brett. Growing up together wasn’t always easy, people couldn’t tell us apart and we are always competing with each other in school & in sports. Perhaps this competition made us both stronger individuals. My family and I are very close. My parents have always encouraged me to try new things. I enjoy playing all sports but have a few favorites such as golf & hockey. I pretty much “live & breathe” golf. In my spare time I enjoy dirt biking, camping, following politics & studying statistics. One of my big passions is listening to music. I very much enjoy the “oldies” my parents have introduced me to. I enjoy travelling to places with my family. My favorite place I’ve visited thus far has been Jamaica. Jerk chicken is great. I will be graduating this June from @vimyacademy. Plan to travel and enjoy my summer before I attend @nait in fall. I will be taking the Bachelor Business 4-year program there. I hope to become an entrepreneur and focus on how to help people make their businesses successful." Congratulations on your achievement Connor! 🏌️‍♂️⛳👏

Meet William Pernal, he will be receiving his Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th! "I am a 16 year old student from Grande Prairie. I was introduced to the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award through the @577rcacs. I have been in cadets since I was 12 years old. I began the Bronze level in January 2017, realizing the benefits that came along with it. I learned new skills, stayed fit, got to help out my community and explore the wilderness! After my Bronze was finished I felt inspired to do more. As soon as I got the chance, I started the Silver Award. I feel so grateful to have been given the opportunities to accomplish this wonderful Award, it has lead to many openings in my life which I hope to pursue later on. For instance, I chose to develop my skills in piano. This has lead me in winning awards in my local music festival, competing at the provincial level, and completing my grade seven piano with first class honours. I am now in grade eight piano and I have been the accompanists for the preparatory division of the @boysquadgp for two years. I also have been able do develop my athletic abilities. The weekly practices have helped me to stay in shape and develop my soccer abilities by training with my local soccer club team. My team has competed in tournaments throughout the year in Alberta. I hope to be able to play soccer for the Grande Prairie Regional College GPRC team when I’m older. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a key element to my future and success, pushing me to do more, accomplish tasks, learn new things, and help out." Congratulations on your achievement William, you are on the ball! 🏃‍♂️⚽🎹

Meet Kelan Lynch, he will be receiving his Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

Kelan says: "I was introduced to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through the local Air Cadet Squadron, 577 Grande Prairie. Since starting, I have always looked forward to the challenges that are ahead of me, and I enjoy being able to get out in the community. Being able to work for the betterment of our community through service is an absolutely wonderful feeling, and I am happy to help anywhere that is needed. This past summer I was selected to attend the Glider Pilot Scholarship Course, offered through the Royal Canadian Air Cadets programme. This was a wonderful opportunity to put to use all of the essential life skills that are fostered by the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme. For more than one year prior to the course, as well as on the course, the skills that were learned included everything that is needed to know in order to attain one’s pilots licence. Many hours of physical work were needed to push gliders on the field. Also, the aspect of service was heavily intertwined into the course. All of the cadets, and staff were constantly working together and helping each other out, which created such an astronomical sense of community that there was never any lack of service; lending a hand to all of your friends. Being in the Duke of Edinburgh’s programme has broadened my outlook regarding opportunities and experiences through the people I have met and been able to network with.
To be able to participate in such an award is an incredible honour, and I am thankful for the many opportunities it has provided to me. I plan to continue pursuing the Award at the Gold level, and I thank everyone who has helped me thus far." Congratulations on your achievement Kelan, onwards and upwards! ☁️🗺️✈️

Meet Logan Wachtler, he will be receiving his Silver Award in #Edmonton on April 20th!

Logan says: "I am 16 years old and live in Olds, Alberta. At the age of 6 I joined the local swim club, and by the time I was 8 I was going to competitions. This peaked my interest for sports and when I was 9 I also joined the amateur football league. These sports have become a big passion of mine and I still love them to this day. At 12 years old I joined 185 Olds Air Cadets and realized a passion outside of sports. During my time in cadets I have organized and ran fall and spring camps, was in charge of the Survive Air Competition team, and became an active participant on the annual range team. Recently I completed my Bronze Cross and Bronze Medallion courses and am currently volunteering at our local pool. In April I am enrolled in the National Lifeguard course and upon completion will be certified as a lifeguard." Congratulations on all of your achievements Logan! 🎉👍🏊

The youth, do you see injustice around you & can't do anything about it?
It's not that you can't do anything about it, you chose to stay happy with the injustice, you chose to overlook the reality, you chose to live a glittery life for the sake of social media, you chose to be careless, you chose to have an attitude 'It doesn't affect me', you chose to be selfish, you chose to hear your elders who say 'it's none of your business', since you chose to live in this reality, you are choosing death & destruction of humans & environment for generations!... or you chose to adapt violence by carrying forward the legacy of groups with evil agenda. Either way you have been on the wrong side.

Youth with nonviolence & wisdom gained independence for their states, they peacefully ousted the corrupt leaders around the world... it's all because of their discipline & love for humanity as a whole.

As a youth myself, I see the youth being diluted towards fancy world! Come to reality! Don't let these corrupt oldies decide your future.

You are strong enough to face it all, even if it doesn't feel like it right now. You're stronger than you really are, so stop being so hard on yourself. Know that you serve a God who knows every hair on your head who loves mountains on your behalf.
Keep your head up! Stay focused, stau present!
