Working on splits -----> Read on!
Yesterdays pose is the most safest pose for stretching the hamstrings because your back is stabilized so there is no room for compensation. That is not the case with standing forward fold. .
It is so easy to compensate in standing forward fold. You go for the straight legs when you are not ready, this results in your body fighting you and contracting your hamstrings (while you are stretching them) and you end up with tucked tailbone transfering the stretch to your spine. Not only that this can be painful but it also can be quite dangerous and you can end up with an unwanted injury. .
If you are a beginner in stretching and yoga I would recomend to do the day 1 until you gain at least some flexibility and than start working on this.
The most important things to remember here are:
🍭 bend from the hips
🍭 pull belly in and up
🍭 aim for elongation through the spine
🍭 don't force your hamstrings to stretch
🍭 BE PATIENT!

Recipe for One-Legged Wheel
When I first tried wheel pose 3 years ago, it looked more like a box than a circle - super bent arms and knees. I found a great @yogaglo class with @jason_crandell that includes 3 wheels at the end of the practice and I did that class every day for a month. My wheel got a lot rounder as my body opened up and I continued to find the shape regularly over the last year. That's my story of long-term progress. This photo shows my story of short-term progress. Trying wheel pose before any warm-up, and again after a targeted practice. This one-leg variation requires space in both your front-body (hip flexors, quads, shoulders) and back-body (hamstrings). Here's what I did between 9am and 10am:
Thread the needle in shoulders
Arm circles with strap
3 sun salutations
High lunge with backbend
Forward folds (stay and melt)
Standing hand to big toe pose
Low lunge with backbend
Open back and quads with wheel
Wheel (3 times)
One legged wheel (3 times)

Almost at the halfway point of my teacher training and I can feel a new strength and a resilience building. The last weekend was a tough weekend, physically and mentally - but in a good way. Im enjoying every minute! Pictures to show how Morty gets progressively closer to me throughout my practice until he's staring at me in the face. #yogateachertraining#selfpractice#yogabuddy#gratitude
