TFW you're supervising research at the school, and your hosts surprise you with a plate full of sweets!
There's a strong ethos of food sharing and welcoming guests in Fiji. When the teachers had their tea time, the women who baked for them also brought me a (much-appreciated) plate of sweets plus hot tea. ...
As a visiting researcher, it's sometimes difficult to ensure I'm giving in return. In 2017, my field team was able to participate in a community fundraiser for the school, which still needs to complete houses for resident teachers. It never seems like enough (to me), given how welcoming the community has always been.

'Around here, we don't look backwards for very long.....~
We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things because we're curious.....and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.'~
We visited a small local village, where local kids were excited to see us. Kindergarten kids welcomed us by singing and school kids showed how good they are to speak English! They were so cute! 🤗 #yasawaisland
