I don’t know how many of you love Majidi’s work but certainly the movie #beyondtheclouds is on my recommendation list. It’s a must watch! Amazing how each character played an integral role in binding the emotional string. #mustwatch
“Yelling in a Loud Voice at the Photoshop Picnic” is a digital photo collage that brings attention to use of Photoshop in my work. Photoshopping has become so taboo that we often don’t discuss how prevalent it is in photographic work. Photoshop is a very important element in my creative process and I don’t want to hide it.
Even when listening to the most provocative threats made by President Trump, any fear non-white American citizens could ever be forcibly deported seems like hysterical fantasy. But it is also historical fact. Between 1929 and 1936, up to 1.2 million Americans — US citizens — were forcibly “repatriated” to their “home” in Mexico. Many did not even speak Spanish. Los Angeles city — with the largest populations of Mexicans outside Mexico — played a leading role, deporting 400,000 Mexicans. Many were forcibly rounded up in raids based upon their appearance, and sent across the border with a total lack of due process. Yet as the pace of deportation speeded up in the 1930s, efforts were underway to make Olvera Street, at the heart of Los Angeles’ Mexican barrio, into a tourist-kitsch calle to fit with white Americans’ romanticized version of Mexican culture — despite the fact that at the same time, Mexicans were being forcibly removed from the very same street.

#fyi#Bandung#womenphotograph#reportagespotlight
“What does it mean to be American? Honestly, the way the country is going at the moment, I don’t know. Just work hard, be free. Try to live a better life.”
Nazim arrived in the US from a Kurdish refugee camp, aged two. Sitting in the back room of his mobile phone store in Nashville, Tennessee, he shows us photos of a Kurdish past on Facebook — at the same time as he talks to us in a strong southern accent about his all-American life.
Nashville today has more Kurdish residents than any other city in the US: at least 15000 live in a city that in the past 40 years has become known as “little Kurdistan”. The first refugee families arrived here in the late 1970s from Iraq. A second wave followed, in the early 1990s, fleeing the genocidal violence unleashed by Saddam Hussein. More recently, a third group has arrived in the wake of the Syrian Civil War and ISIS’ advance into Kurdish territory, though their journeys to Nashville have been made more challenging by both the deep cuts in the US refugee resettlement program and President Trump’s travel ban.

ETÀ is a portrays series about a lonely life of Dona Lourdes, a Portuguese woman who arrived in Rio de Janeiro at 25. Todays she’s 91, who is already taken by the symptoms of longevity, knows little about her own history.
During a visit, among her memories, she revealed me that she did not marry and had no children and to pay her expenses she counts on his retirement and the generosity of a few friends of the church where she attends.
Dona Lourdes is my neighbor. When I just arrived at the building, she told me that everyone was affectionately called grandmother. She invited me into her little hideaway and asked me to help her put a plastic bag containing dish clothes, which she made in the upper part of her closet, she has a small stature and did not allow doing so.
Her lifestyle makes her old age merely a coadjutant. The fatigue of living is present in your legs, in your hands, in your eyes and in confessing that your bed is your favorite object in her tiny apartment and where you most enjoy being. When I ask why being her bed is her favorite object, she says because it is made of good, very beautiful wood, and subtly does not let it outstrip the mystery of an unrevealed past.
Enchanted with the camera, she elegantly disguises the pains and hardships of living so much and alone. I’m 34 age and I found myself in Lourdes as if my future were living next to me. And who knows, she does not recognize her past in me.
No matter what, you simply love your parents without knowing the reason of that attachment string. Something is really strange about the kind of lessons of belongingness are taught to us silently..!!
