Mountains are the temples built not by man for prayers and peace. There’s an honor when passing through the doors closest to heaven by way of foot or mule. Wilderness provides sanctuary to leave behind the ego of man. Truly wilderness shapes the souls of wild people. Weaving together something we have, as people, forgot.
I’m going back to these places, determined to weave into my story as many mountains and wild lands, as many mules and horses, rivers and peaks into my life. The last of all things wild ...need the tonic of wilderness to Sustain them
NIN friends, we need your HELP! Our best friends dog (a 4.5 year old adorable boxer) ran into traffic while we were pet sitting and got hit by a car a couple of days ago. Through a rollercoaster of emotion (thinking we may lose her, she is pretty much our dog too), the vet has said there is no internal damage and she will make a full recovery. Her femur broke in a few spots and required surgery which was completed last night. We are picking her up this evening with a vet bill we can't afford of $8,100. So far it has all been put on credit.
If you could take a look at our GoFundMe campaign link in the bio it would be INCREDIBLY appreciated. We're mainly just happy Andy survived, but the bill is still unbearable to look at. 🙈
You guys are so awesome. Thank you so much. ❤🐶
Day 34. Tomorrow I hit 400 miles. The last 3 days have been full on survival mode with drenching rain, powerful winds and highs in the 40’s. Yesterday the trail was basically a creek for over 10 miles. It’s either hike to stay warm or get in the sleeping bag. But I love how rain brings out the colors and simplifies the forms. It truly feels special to experience these wilderness areas in all of their moods. Every day brings a new and unexpected challenge. The climbs have been relentless and the weather punishing but the beauty has been profound. Most of my days are spent alone seeking a perfect rhythm of breath and footsteps. Usually I’m looking down to navigate the rocks and roots. When I can I raise my eyes to take in the landscape, then return them to the path, my main companion on this journey.
Consider this Colorado altitude snob checked. The Pios are grand mountains. Beautiful, kinda tall, and really, really fun. I'll definitely be back. Another @backpackermag Editors' Choice trip in the books. 🥂🍾☝️
And following on from our previous photo, here’s a better view of the double rainbow we were treated to this evening. As @dollyparton wisely said, “If you want the rainbow you have to put up with the rain”. And we’re happy to put up with it... most of the time. Now to find that pot of gold... 🌈🌈💰
We’re all set for tomorrow morning’s breakfast. Which lucky guest is going to get this view? Even when it’s not in full bloom we’re still very proud of our award winning garden and it’s a super view beyond the fields towards the lakes of Killarney. Not sure if we can always guarantee a 🌈 however.
Where is your favorite place to get outside and watch the stars?
This past weekend I had the pleasure of taking my new @tamronusa 15-30 f2.8 lens out back of our @airbnb in the 'Dacks. I knew the best time to go shoot would be around 2:00am so we all took a nap and set an alarm to get up. I was a brat and didn't want to wake up, but thanks to @handmadedarling, I finally got up and out there to shoot! This was my first time shooting the Milky Way since last fall and I've missed it so much! My goal is to get outside more this year and shoot more!
