Thought Id do an update WIP on Celestia's wig!
Im going to be working on the costume after I do the other bang n leave the tidying of the drills till closer to QCon; but I'd say it's nearly there! What do you guys think?

I tried for the first time mattifying a wig with baby powder (talc.) and I am pretty happy with the results! .

How to do:
1. Ensure wig is tangle free
2. Section top wefts of hair to the side and begin with bottom layers
2. Gently (AND SPARINGLY) sprinkle on the powder to the fibres, using hands to work it in
3. Resort to a fine comb to further disperse powder into hair
4. Cry that you can't get rid of the blotty patches of white hair
5. Keep working into hair and adding powder gradually until satisfied.
6. Move onto other sections of hair, and repeat.
7. Amaze yourself as you step back and reflect on how you wasted an hour of your life inhaling the fine powder in a badly ventilated room
8. Smile sheepishly as you have 60+ wigs to do .

BEFORE HAND: Check to make sure your wig fibres are heat resistant! (To do so: have straightener on lowest setting *mine was 150ยฐC* and section out a part that wouldn't be noticed if it stuffs up. Apply heat! IF it frizzes like an ass, GET THAT STRAIGHTENER THE FUCK AWAY FROM YOUR WIG RN. IF it remains dandy then move on to step 1!)

1. Place your wig on a foam mannequin/wig stand for easy access.
2. Put straightener on lowest setting (*to ensure fibres don't burn if you're a noob at it - I was lol) and section out a small curl
3. Brush out that section with a comb (fine or wide or combination *what I did* works fine)
4. Now you have a smooth tangle free wave~ yasss
5. Apply your straightener over several times slowly beginning at the mid working your way down slowly, then repeat but start near the roots the second time around~ Do several passes until you're satisfied.
6. Now you have achieved Smoothness~~~~ Repeat working your way around the wig until done, clipping your finished sections to the left and the to-be-done to the right (or viceversa depending if you're right/left handed)
7. IMPORTANT: Do not touch freshly ironed fibres as it will be VERY HOT!!! (I have a high heat tolerance after years of holding freshly made instant noodle bowls by the base with my bare hands though so I did it anyway haha BUT) I RECOMMEND you leave it for a few seconds then proceed to brush through with comb. DO NOT BE AN IDIOT LIKE ME AND BRUSH THROUGH IT WITH THE COMB IMMEDIATELY AFTER. *Will melt the comb teeth demonstrated*
8. Then bask in the smoothness and cry why you didn't get a straightener when you started cosplay a year ago.... .

Any suggestions what to use it for? I bought it on a whim oops. The curls were a pain to keep tidy so I went, SCREW IT, straight it is~~~~

Currently working on my OC Shinra. The WIG is about 90cm long and drives me crazy somehow.๐ The charakter has a lot of small braids and it's not that easy to create them. The Kasumi wig is a Luthien in Pumpkin that I straightened.
The Ayane wig was a factory test Lindsay in Lilac that I straightened and fought hard with to get those bangs. ๐ this is, like, the third and fourth wig I've straightened and styled within a month. ๐

This is my WIP Sailor Moon//Usagi Tsukino wig! Since its not a pigtail wig, I'm having to criss cross pieces of hair to cover the wefts on the inside! I'm pretty happy with the results, considering its my first time doing something like this!

I finished my #supernova wig over the weekend! I mostly did all this work so the hair fits better behind the headpiece, but also to get the awesome galaxy hair she has.

1. I started with 3 eBay wigs (2 pictured, the 3rd was aqua, so that's where the streaks came from)
2. I removed all the light purple at the front of the purple one, and pulled all the dark blue off the dark blue one
3. Then I added extra lace from the dark blue one to create a widows peak, and filled the whole front with dark blue wefts going backwards. I also flipped some of the existing dark purple wefts around the top of the hair
4. I cut most of the dark blue shorter, and added the aqua streaks.
The hairline is pretty rough but it will be hidden under the headpiece.

Wig WIP!
Adding wefts to the hairline of this @ardawigs Grace to give this swept up look a clean finish. I measured the area I'm covering first, and whipstitched three rows of wefts of that length. That was then stitched to the underside of the wig and pulled around. A bit of heat from a hairdryer to train the fibers in the correct way and there you have it!
Now I know what you're thinking, why but just use a ponytail wig as the base?
Well the color I needed wasn't in stock for the needed deadline so I needed to get creative!

Apparently my new weekend hobby is straightening wigs. A certain nerd ( @homuralilly ) reminded me of a cosplay I wanted to do, so I took an old wig and decided that I'll use it.
Ironically, this will be my first Fire Emblem Awakening cosplay. ๐

Iโm (pretty much) done colouring my wig! So after soaking my current Techie wig (on the right) in fabric conditioner for 4-5 days, it's a LOT softer than it was.
However... I think I'm still going to try a different path! If you checked my stories yesterday I explained a bit there. The wig I picked was just too orange, and I chopped way too much off of it. No amount of conditioner can save it. :C
New wig on the left! It's a naturally darker, cooler auburn. I'm so ready to start playing with this one! Things I've learned? DO NOT BOIL WIGS :C esp cheaper ones maybe? They get really brittle and strawlike. Also, don't get too scissor happy and try to use soft styling products, not ones that dry too hard and crispy. :s

My brother (Quen), our childhood friend (Savanah) and I are going to be attempting the fullmetal trio! Winry, Ed, and Al! This is practice for the Winry wig I'm going to style for Savanah. This is my first time trying to put a higher ponytail in a wig. Its not the best but it could have been way worse so I'm content with it. I'm hopping the final out come of the blond wig we have will end up better.

The last picture is me relizing that this wig is almost perfect for Mable! Just have to take out the ponytail and SHABAM! I'd love to do Mable, Grenda, and Candy with Savanah and Quen! That'd be the best!

I've mentioned before that wig styling really isn't my forte. I can do basic things like simple cutting and a braid here and there. But if it's something more complicated than that, I'm pretty much at a loss. That's why I really needed a teacher for my Glinda wig, because her updo is kind of fancy. Thankfully @sillizicuni was nice enough to pop over to show me her ways (and for some derping), and I feel like I leveled up!

For anyone that didn't see the Instagram Story, I turned a super cheap Halloween dog wig into a Junkrat wig for Kiba! This is actually my first real wig styling besides just cutting a wig. I was laughing so hard and also questioning my life choices while working on this wig.........like seriously.......WTF am I doing styling a dog wig????? Wow!!! XD

So basically teasing the crap out of it and using heat than brushing it out to create a lot more volume ๐
I did this technique a long time ago for the Ori wig commission I had as the client wanted a base wig off eBay and it was really thin and it worked great! It just takes a bit of time sadly and not fun to do on longer wigs.
I also used the shaved side hair to make wefts to sew back into the wig. โบ๏ธ and extra hair that I either trimmed or came out after brushing out the teasing. Went back into the hair as well. (Basically glued it down and used it for stuffing in the Mohawk ((that's the weird giant mound thing ๐))

Working on my next wig commission (I'm actually almost done). I had to restart this part because of some fussy glue. This is a little before and after.
I used an 80 grit sanding block to achieve the desired shape.

Before and After of my Deku wig ๐ It was a cheap "Izuku Midoriya" wig off of ebay. It was HELLA FLOOFY to begin with so styling it was super easy. I just had to trim the front and then spray the whole thing with hairspray and form the spikes. No gel was used aside from the one piece in the front!

Been working on my Reiju wig! Unfortunately it's a bit short but this wig was bought second hand and the company doesn't do this colour way anymore otherwise I'd get another and redo it
