How To Prevent Cataracts? - Eating Lifestyle
The leading cause of vision loss is cataracts. One of the most common surgeries performed today is for cataracts. Age-related cataracts is a major cause of morbidity. Previous studies of diet and cataract risk have focused on specific nutrients or healthy eating indexes, but not on identifiable dietary groups such as vegetarians.
The study was the association between diet and cataract risk in a population that has a wide range of diets and includes a high proportion of vegetarians.
The result was a strong relation between cataract risk and diet group, with a progressive decrease in risk of cataract in high meat eaters to low meat eaters, fish eaters (participants who ate fish but not meat), vegetarians, and vegans.
After a multivariable adjustment, incidence rate ratios for moderate meat eaters, low meat eaters, fish eaters, vegetarians, and vegans compared with high-meat eaters. There was an association with cataract risk and intakers of selected nutrients and foods generally reflected the strong association with diet.
The conclusion was that vegetarians were at a lower risk of cataract than meat eaters in this study. Just cutting down on eating meat your risk is cut by 15%. Just do fish you are down 21%. No fish there is a 30% drop in risk. Finally, no eggs and diary there is a 40% drop in risk of cataracts.
Just as with diabetes risk appears to be a stepwise reduction, a progressive decrease in risk in parallel with the decrease in the amount of meat and other animal products in the eating lifestyle.

I have a special little treat for you today thanks to our resident Dirty dude, Wyatt Nash, and his most awesome wife, Rebecca. Wyatt and Rebecca have been in our community for a couple of years, batching our meal plans and participating in the Dirty fun over in the Clean Food Dirty Girl Private Group on Facebook.
This fab husband and wife team have developed a flow that works really well for them when they batch our meal plans. A while back, they offered to shoot a video demo sharing how they work it out each week. We're also including a free WFPB recipe for Furikake Seasoning - link in bio! Photo by @christineljune

The food we eat does not make us a better (or worse) person than another..........................
The food we eat determines the fuel we are putting in our body. This in turn, affects our energy level, our ability to think clearly, stay healthy and live a long disease-proof life......
But, it is not a moral issue. Let’s take the shame out of eating and diet culture. .
Put simply. Food=Fuel. .
Why do we reward ourselves with treats and junk food that will leave us feeling sick and lethargic?
This mentality made sense during times in history where there was great scarcity. Think Great Depression-there was little sugar and so it was a big deal to bake a cake and saved for great celebrations............. However, where I live, there is no scarcity. Fast food joints are on every corner. Grocery store shelves are replete with overly processed, disease promoting products...........................
Still celebrate! But do so with delicious, whole food treats that promote health and vibrancy.......
Make the connection! Love yourself enough to feed your body the fuel it needs to function properly with ease, not dis-ease. .
What is your favorite whole food treat?? I would love to hear!
The Brain Enhancing Benefits of Exercise
We know that 90 minutes of exercise, 7 days per week is what the science community tells us what we should do. So why is the recommendation that we exercise 20 minutes per day? The answer is that the authorities are just hoping that Americans will get up and get moving for the minimal time recommended. "Every year in the United States, doctors write 20 million prescriptions for stimulants, like Ritalin, to give to children for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). And the number of prescriptions goes up each year.” The drug is an amphetamine.
These drugs are thought to act by increasing dopamine and norepinephrine levels in the brain. Did you Know? Exercise can increase dopamine and norepinephrine levels. And this happens within minutes of walking on the treadmill; levels rapidly increase. The reality is that medication can take an hour to work; physical activity almost works immediately.
Remember that drugs produce unwanted side effects and have the potential for abuse. Exercise has been shown to be effective by improving overall health, in particular physical, mental and emotional. So, exercise does have side effects - they are all good. The physical food naturally includes eating healthy foods that are anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant-rich plant foods.
Did you know? Vitamin Supplementation may impair physical performance. Whereas with plant foods, you get a positive effect on your mental, emotional and physical state.
There are powerful immediate effects of simply moving your body, long lasting and protective benefits for your brain that can last for the rest of your life. Exercise is the most transformative thing that you can do for your brain. Exercise can result in better mood, better memory, more energy and attention. In summary, a review of the literature provides three transformative immediate effects of exercise and the brain.
-A single workout will immediately increase and release neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine.
-A single workout can shift your focus and attention that will last for at least two hours.
-A single workout will improve your reaction times.
I call these my "Jared" pants lol. Are you tired of always feeling like crap, unexplained health issues, & stubborn fat that you can't seem to get rid of? Well, newsflash, not everything on this earth was put here to go into our mouths 😂 Go vegan & try to eat in an 8 hour time period durning daylight hours (that's when our bodies metabolic system is working most efficiently therefor you get more nutrients & less fat storage) it's as simple as that. #govegan#wholefoodplantbaseddiet#timerestrictedeating#plantbased#veganweightloss#fromflabbytoabby seriously guys less than a year ago (10 months to be exact) I was 190 pounds 🙄 make the change for yourself, for the animals & for the earth. ❤️
