'And then there is the most dangerous risk of all -- the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later' 🌌 Recently a number of people have asked me am not 'done' with travelling yet? Yeahh I'll sometimes debate whether its time to head home to get that city career, maybe use the expensive degree I spent years working towards. But, then I have days like this. Appreciating a beautiful sunset over the temple the scattered plains of Bagan with great new friends, in awe of what our current reality is🌌 Being able to hike mountains with phenomenal views, scuba dive through WW2 ship wrecks, eat delicious street food for a couple pence, live in local villages, connect with people from all over the world, be in an environment where almost nothing is familiar and chase new adventures in locations I can't speak the local dialect is too enticing an opportunity to be 'done with' just yet. I think my LinkedIn profile will be staying blank for a while longer ✌🌏
🇨🇦 - I know, @dennyscanada is not my usual kinda place, but if you order their Fit Fare Skillet minus the egg I promise you won’t be disappointed. Today I swapped out the tomato salsa for the 5 spice sauce and added jalapeños 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 perfection! The only downside is we still have to BYO dairy-free creamer 🥛
A beautiful dirt track drive during golden hour 🌄 I'm fairly lost, gas is low and this road is testing my motorbike skills to the max buttt having the opportunity to view the sunset over the mountains once more & greet locals in the small villages I pass on my journey back to the city makes it all worth it! Sometimes it's worth taking the risk to go #offthebeatenpath 🌌🌄🍃
Did you know there’s an impressive amount of vegan options available at San Churro?
Here’s ‘The Happy Vegan’ a tasty churro bowl with honeycomb ice cream, strawberries and dark chocolate. It’s a biggie, this one is best for sharing! 🍫
🇦🇺 - after visiting @makeoutcolombia in January I was pumped to try @matthewkenneycuisine’s Sydney offering. Presenting the prettiest hummus I’ve ever seen, and it was smoked 🤤 delish tacos and sliders as well as the best sweet potato fries ever at @alibi_woolloomooloo - the only disappointment was that the Candy Bar wasn’t vegan 👎🏼
New blog post: I’ve always loved dolphins, they’re such beautiful and playful creatures (I even got one tattooed on me when I was 18). While traveling through Western Australia last year I got up close with a friendly pod at Monkey Mia and it was such a great experience. I took a billion pics and vids that day - here’s a few of my favourites.🐬 http://vegetaraian.com/monkey-mia/
Songkran celebrations have finished, back to work today and with it comes a new routine! Waking up early, beginning a much needed cleanse, attempting to get 8hrs of sleep a day with a ton of new work and adventure around the corner! (I love having more than 1 new year haha) ✌🏻✨❤️
My ‘Eating Vegan in Japan’ guide is up on the blog today (link in bio)! Despite this very un-Japanese-looking food picture, there are plenty of places to get traditional (and vegan) Japanese cuisine if you’re travelling. As well as listing a few of my fave spots from my recent trip, this guide lists some tips for staying animal-free while you’re in the country. This particular image is from @organic_table_by_lapaz who do a mean burger (or four). Enjoy!
🇦🇺 - I screenshot a pic from @thecleantreatsfactory in January knowing I would be in Sydney later in the year, and here I am 💁🏽♀️ these Charcoal Pancakes were amaze, great balance of flavors - not too sweet 👌🏼 the space is beautiful too, definitely worth a trek out to Alexandria
Whilst trekking to Inle Lake, we stopped at numerous hill tribes where we had the opportunity to learn of their unique customs and beliefs. Buddhism is the main religion in Myanmar but there is also a strong belief in Nat, guardian spirit beings. People believe that spirits can inhabit natural features, trees and people! Devotions and offerings are divided between Buddha for future lives and the Nat for problems in life 🌌 Our guide shared his experience of when his father was inhabited by a negative spirit, supposedly sent to his from a neighbour he didn't get along well with. He believed that the Nat sparked a period of depression and ill health for his father and they had a spirit guide visit the family home to remove it! I guess some things have to be believed to be seen 🌌🍃✌
Isn’t this space beautiful? I’m putting the finishing touches to my guide to eating vegan in Japan and keep looking back through all my photos (as an aside, photos of food = not good when you’re trying to do a detox 🤦🏻♀️). This was @organic_table_by_lapaz in Tokyo. Delicious food and gorgeous decor. I must have taken a hundred photos before our food even arrived!
Hpa an is surrounded by awesome hills that rise abruptly from fields of rice and sugarcane 🎋 After strolling through the vibrant morning market, I climbed Mt Zwegabin 🍃 The peak gives an awesome gods eye view of the town but woah do you have to work for it in that midday heat! 🌏 #melting#jellylegs
Follow your curiosity and take the road less travelled 🌌 🌏 An epic day of scootering past sandal clad villagers, beautiful hill top scenery and curious children as I travelled from one pristine palm fringed beach to the next on the Dawei Peninsula 🌅 I hadn't met anyone that had travelled to this area previously and there wasn't much information regarding cheap backpacking options online. So, I decided to stay optimistic, catch another local night bus and work it out on arrival - the 1am arrival time as opposed to the expected 7am arrival! And hey, it was well worth taking the chance because these beaches are beautiful!! #exploremore
An initiation to the raucous nationwide water fight that is Thingyan 💦💦💦 It's impossible to travel through any village without getting soaking wet! Sometimes it is a welcomed respite from the overwhelming heat in Myanmar, sometimes you see brown water soaring directly at your face and question why you ventured out during the festival at all 🎋 #disinfectmenow
We may have no common language but that didn't stop this group of wonderful ladies from picking up two stranded hitch hikers after my scooter decided it didn't want to work anymore #luxurytravel 🎉 I'm always amazed at the kindness shown and comraderie that quickly develops amongst strangers whilst travelling, even when my very limited and incoherent language skills fail me, there's always a smile and laugh to be shared #peace
I saw @themindfulstrawberry’s Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins earlier today on her profile, and then this happened 💁🏽♀️ hands down the best vegan muffins I’ve ever had. Just inhaled one, and going to use all my willpower not to eat the rest before everyone gets home 🙈
cheers to a new beginning! i was planning on waiting until we got back from vacation to post, but this meal was just too good for me to wait. although there are so many restaurants here in spain with veggie options, this was definitely one of the best! i hope everybody has a great weekend, happy friday!
- bell peppers
- eggplant - pesto
(plus some unpictured housemade bread for dipping!)
It was interesting to learn that every Burmese male is expected to take up temporary monastic residence twice in his life. Once a a novice monk between the age of 5 and 15, and again as a fully ordained monk after the age of 20 ✌
Lunch at the house with the yellow door 🎑 This is Daw Phyu, the 64 year old mother of our trekking guide, Zaw. During a three day hike from Kalaw to Inle Lake, Zaw kindly brought us to his family home for a delicious Burmese feast prepared by his mother, followed by a much needed nap on bamboo mats 🎋 😴
The simple life ⛵Surrounded by greenery, Inle Lake is a floating landscape of stilted villages, monasteries and aquatic gardens. It was so interesting to see the fishermen perform their ballerina like movements on the water, paddling the boats with one leg wrapped around the oar 🐟 🐠 🐡 I spent a few days here, exploring the area on bicycle and rowing boat, also painting a mural at a hostel for a free bed #savvybackpacker
Spending a few days hiking from Kalaw to Inle lake was incredible 🎋 Granted, starting a three day hike after arriving in the village at 4am after night bus might not be the best decision, but it's nothing three cups of coffee can't fix ☕☕☕#caffinefiend
