Amnesty International on Saturday named former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick its 2018 Ambassador of Conscience for his kneeling protests against racial injustice.
The award, given to Kaepernick in an Amsterdam ceremony, is handed out each year to “individuals and groups who speak out for justice,” Amnesty says on its website, with an aim to “create debate, encourage public action and raise awareness of human rights issues.” Past recipients include Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai and U2.

In the 2017 offseason, veteran wide receiver #BrandonMarshall signed with the #NewYorkGiants in hopes of playing in a postseason game for the very first time. As of Thursday afternoon, he will have to look elsewhere in order to do that.
According to a report by Kimberley A. Martin of the Washington Post, the Giants informed Marshall that they are releasing him. The move was later confirmed by Giants general manager Dave Gettleman in his pre-draft press conference. Gettleman stated that Marshall has been released with a failed physical designation after Marshall suffered a season-ending ankle injury in 2017.
Marshall's tenure with the Giants ends only one year after he signed a two-year, $12 million contract to join the team. Marshall was the last big-name free agent signing made by former Giants general manager Jerry Reese, who opted to bring Marshall aboard over offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, who instead signed with the Los Angeles Rams. It quickly became apparent that Reese's decision was a mistake: Marshall, who had brought with him a perennial Pro Bowl pedigree, ended up being one of the biggest free agent busts the Giants have had in recent memory. In his Giants debut against the Dallas Cowboys, Marshall only recorded a single reception for ten yards, and Marshall never took off in a pitiful Giants offense before suffering his season-ending injury in early October against the Los Angeles Chargers. For the Giants, Marshall had only 18 total catches for 154 yards and no touchdowns.
