Happy Earth Day! In honor of today i'll leave a quote by one of my favorite authors. "When we enter places of grandeur and sites of suffering, and inhabit landscapes of historical import and ecological splendor, we stand on the periphery of awe. How did this happen? Who were the witnesses? And what are we seeing now? The American landscape has a voice, many voices. It becomes us. Our national parks are a burning bush of identities.
This deeper understanding of our individual and shared histories, both human and wild, allows us to touch and be touched by what has occurred in the past and what remains as we contemplate what we can create together by listening to one another with an open heart. ... 'If we can learn to listen to the land, we can learn to listen to each other.'" -Terry Tempest Williams
Yesterday morning we were laying on the beach, I walked down to the water and saw tons of plastic washed up all over the shore and stuck in all the seaweed.
My friend @aannalissaa and I picked up these sand castle buckets that washed up with the rest of the trash and quickly filled them with pieces of plastic.
Big thick pieces to tiny broken down pieces. Bottle caps, straws, wrappers, cups, utensils, bags...
All just from right in front of where we were sitting.
Every day I become more aware of how much waste plastic produces and how wastefully it’s used.
Everyday is #earthday .. but today especially, get out and do something good for the planet. #leavenotrace
What better time than today to take a stance for a better tomorrow for humans and the environment right here in our own backyard — the Pacific Ocean and beaches! -
I can’t walk around my day to day without picking up trash along the way. I can’t look away. -
Approximately 700,000 tons of waste is thrown out daily in the US. That’s 4.4 lbs per person daily. -
In Los Angeles area alone, 10 metric tons of plastic fragments — like grocery bags, straws and soda bottles — are carried into the Pacific Ocean every day. Today billions of pounds of plastic can be found in swirling convergences making up about 40 percent of the world's ocean surfaces. -
These plastics never biodegrade, but photodegrade and remain polymers (plastics) until they are so small, they float and some can’t be seen. What’s worse? Marine animals ingest them and they become part of our food chain. BPA and other endocrine disrupting chemicals further adding to the health epidemic. In essence, we are now eating the plastic straws, bottles and containers we once discarded. -
What can you do today? Reduce reliance on plastics (ask me how), choose to reuse your food and beverage containers (ask me how) and let’s clean it up. We are all united by blue. -

A BIG thank you to everyone who participated in our Earth Day cleanup along the Bronx River today! With your help we were able to clear over 2,500 lbs of trash in just two hours! And here's a special nod to our director of cleanups, Kelly Offner, who is our personal cleanup spirit animal 🌎🙌
Very excited to announce that we will now be carrying @unitedbyblue ! United by Blue is not only geared towards getting outdoors, but preserving the outdoors as well. Their products are made with organic/recycled materials, hemp fabrics, and for each product sold, they remove one pound of trash from our waterways. 💚🌎🌱🌊♻️💙 #unitedbyblue#getoutdoors#getoutside#shoplocal#bluemovement
Did you know that you vote EVERY DAY?!?! You do! With your $$$$s! 💰💸💳So keep that in mind with the companies you support & products you buy! 😉 we are getting VERY intentional on this that not only are we avoiding toxins & chemicals like the plague- we also want to use our voting dollars with companies & brands that make a difference & we can feel good about buying from! I was searching #rei for Organic Cotton apparel- because did you know that other materials can be basically made from plastic pellets/oil refinery by products😬- definitely not something I want to live in & have on my biggest organ constantly(skin!) I didn’t know before but now that I do- I’ve really come to see the difference that organically grown cotton can make! You do also want to be sure it’s Organic because conventional cotton is some of the most heavily sprayed stuff out there 😬 I felt really good about this shirt from #unitedbyblue & that was before I even got it in person got to check out their company! I LOVE THEM & their mission to reduce plastic waste & environmental impact-For every product sold, United By Blue removes one pound of trash from our world's oceans and waterways! 😍 you guys!! Living in the middle of the country- I had no idea til we started making other environmental changes how bad our oceans are getting littered with trash! 😱 its a mess- but we CAN make a difference! 🌊 I’m happy to support them by wearing their cute gear- made with material I love, giving back, & made by a company whose brand aligns with our ideals 🌱♥️
This Sunday is Earth Day (but isn’t it everyday?!) & we’re highlighting a few of our brands that give back but are also thinking forward 🌎🔀 @unitedbyblue was built on environmental outreach & has exceeded their efforts with one 1 item sold 1lb of trash cleared. UBB is 1 of our 2 @bcorporation brands in our shop & we’re proud to have them!
Important question: If you were stranded in the woods and could only have ONE of these two @thejuicephilly blends—Coffee+Kale or Peanut Butter+Cacao—which would you choose?
#thejuicephilly made for the best on-the-go fuel for our day of hiking! We kept them on ice in the car then threw them into our bag to enjoy while we hiked. Check out my Ricketts Glen Insta stories highlight to see our adventure and head to @thejuicephilly for alllll the blends!
@unitedbyblue is a #brandwelove from their love of creators, content curation, devotion to cleaning our oceans and waterways, and their amazing mission to create awesome, original products. Chris and I booked it out of the city on Friday to spend a night out of town and a day in the mountains. I found myself constantly taking deep, full belly breaths as we followed the river and the 22 waterfalls in Ricketts Glen State Park. It made me think of the stark contrast between the bustling hustling city we live in and the peaceful quiet fresh-air outdoors that are right in our back yard (does 2 hrs away count as a back yard?) I think, if we’re not careful, we can forget to really breathe in these busy buzzing lives we live. My reminder from this weekend? Don’t forget to breathe. . .
You can find my Made for the Moutains hat, this moon cycle tank, as well as this perfectly-sized olive bluff backpack all on @unitedbyblue’s website (I got Chris a perfect pair of hiking socks, too!) If you’re in Philly, be sure to stop by their stores to shop and hang at the cafe (the menu, tho!). Love a brand that has a mission to do good? Me too, and for every item you purchase, #unitedbyblue removes one pound of trash from our oceans and waterways. They host cleanups, too, and you can sign up for one directly on their site! Be sure to think of them before planning your next hike!
A look back at our first cleanup of the season, featuring our founder, Brian Linton, and a massive amount of Styrofoam!
Want to get involved in a future cleanup? We're heading to the Bronx River next weekend , 4/21, in honor of Earth Day! Head to the link in our bio to sign up🌎✌️
