“One of the happiest moments in life is when you find the courage to let go of what you can’t change.”
Perhaps one of the hardest lessons from my illness has been to learn to let go of what I cannot control.
Sometimes I try so hard to hold on to the way things used to be or how I think they should go, that I cause myself more pain and heartbreak than simply letting go and beginning the process to acceptance.
There are always going to be things in life that you cannot control.
In fact, life itself is one grand adventure full of twists and turns: the UNKNOWN.
Releasing your hold on things that you cannot control will be one of the most freeing things you can do for your body, mind, and soul.

Got myself some local romaine, spinach, onions, and broccoli from the farmers market. Some organic celery and avocado from @traderjoes. Some pasture raised @365bywholefoods eggs and pasture raised pork patties from @wholefoods. Threw on some olive oil from @thrivemkt and ranch from @primalkitchenfoods. Home made sauerkraut, pickles, and pickled carrots!
Back on a (real) bike for the first time in over 2 YEARS! Eeek!
Some days I absolutely still struggle with accepting my ostomy, but days like today when I am able to just LIVE, I cannot help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Life is good ☀️
More deadlifts today and no I didn’t get yelled at 😆💪🏻🏋🏻♂️
I had a rough morning with my UC plus my monthly friend came yesterday, So basically I feel like I got hit by a truck. Damn the couch was calling my name, but I got my ass out the door because I knew I would feel better once I started moving. And guess what, I was right.
I texted my trainer to tell her I didn’t have high hopes for today and @strongbysteph promptly replied with...
“You're a badass! 👊🏻❤ the hardest part is showing up. Do what you can, give yourself grace for the rest. It's not a race! Consistency and quality >>> volume and death”
I love her. That was just what I needed.
While I got through most of my workout, I cut the last part short because there was just no gas left in the tank...and that’s ok. Learning to listen to my body has been a difficult lesson, but it always knows what is best for me over my brain. I still showed up, I did my best and now I’m giving myself grace. Now I just need to carry this over into all areas of my life 😊
My large intestine this time last year. Despite surgery my surgical team believes the 20cm of rectum left over still looks like this or worse. I’ve stayed awake for my last 3 scopes, I refused to be put to sleep. I am so glad I got to experience this, I was able to see for myself the state of my colon and what was actually going on. Ive always read my reports and asked for photos but seeing it first hand was something else. Much to my medical and surgical teams disgust I tried to con them into letting me keep my intestine. My last words to my surgeon were ‘don’t forget to take pictures for me’ and the first time I saw him after surgery he pulled through and showed me photos then he showed the photos from pathology. I have a lot of love for this guy. #ulcers#ibd#ulcerativecolitis#ulcerativecolitisfighter#ibdawareness#ileostomy
