@wim_van_den_heever constantly produces amazing images from all corners of the globe. His series on penguins are particularly powerful. ***
Clash of Titans..!
When lions and buffalo lock horns the battle is intense.
Next year we have another spectacular bunch of safaris in the Okavango in search of more scenes like this. I cannot wait..!
***Usually there is a dominate subject, with in a scene being photographed. However, every now and then we have two subjects in our scene that draw equal attention. These two play off each other, in a compositional tool called Counter Point. ***
OUR REVIEW: I wanted to find a specific image that shows counter point. This image by Wim does just that. It’s a remarkable scene photographed in a way that makes our eyes jump between Lion and Buffalo continuously, because we are trying to work out what’s going on. At first glance we look at the lion, is the lightest part of the frame. From the lion our eye naturally drifts to the reason why the lion is running. The buffalo, with its tail up, we can see is the aggressor in this moment. One of the best backgrounds you can have in our images is other animals, it wraps the environment into part of the frame, here the back-ground buffalo do just that. Its a fantastic moment, the image is colourful and powerful. There are two things that are a little distracting, the first is the crop. The buffalo in the back have their backs cropped off, it is however understandable that in the excitement of the moment that focus is on the two main points of interest. The back-ground buff feature so strongly in the composition that it distracts a little not seeing them complete. The second is the addition of the vignette, the space the lion is running into is right where we see the edge of the vignette. This makes it even more pronounced.
