Lichen layers in old growth temperate rain forest.
While exploring the trails, I was disheartened to see many areas that had been destroyed by foot traffic, idle hands and enlarging social media egos. There was also the addition of carelessly tossed garbage; waterbottles and soiled toilet paper lazily tucked into nooks and crannies. In addition to that mess...colorful, shiny food wrappers scattered about, sticking out like neon signs in the sea of green and brown. This, despite the fact that water fountains, bathrooms and garbage cans could be sourced nearby.... It's a fairly remote place, but increasingly popular. It bears all the scars of so many beautiful natural areas that get the wrong kind of attention.
This bark is everything 😍. I don't think I've seen any like it. So beautiful. -
I'm having an difficult time identifying the tree though... I think perhaps Arizona Madrone (Arbutus arizonica), but I'm not quite sure. Any thoughts? Saw it in a canyon in Sedona, Arizona.
