Today has been one of those days that most people long-term travelling can relate to in one way or another. Frustrating, annoying and at times damn right infuriating 😡 sometimes you really have to remind yourself that you are a guest in another country with completely different values and cultures and what you expect to happen, rarely will.
.
.
So if your pre-paid bus is randomly cancelled without any explanation, or you are singled out in a huge group as the only people that have to pay an excessive charge to enter a tourist attraction, or if you still haven’t had hot water in weeks and on top of that no cash machine has actually any cash in it... sometimes you have to let yourself have half an hour of anger, accept it (maybe rant to your traveller partner/ friends) and move on... and sometimes these moments can be the funniest stories to tell your friends and family! 😶

(🇮🇹, June 2010)
In the stickiness of the mid-day heat I wandered up a small laneway leading to the center of Palantino Hill. Here, I found a tiny, active church. I have been a doubting Thomas on the god front my whole life, so walking into a church and feeling good about it, not to mention, feeling god in it, was a new experience.
It was a relatively unimpressive church, (for Rome) and so refreshingly empty and quiet. I sat on a pew in the back row, slipped off my sandals, and let my sweaty feet press against the cold marble floor. My ears were flooded with choir songs piped over the PA system. I gazed up at the domed-roof and dulled frescoes around me.
My whole life I had assumed that prayer was only for the religious. But, for those skeptics like me, could it be “...an unfailing device for bringing introversion into the mind”? ✨
So I sat, and I prayed. Losing myself in an hour of prayer felt as long as my entire trip. My thoughts were filled with intentions for courage and love, forgiveness and release, a stream coursing from myself to others and then back to me. No Jesus in sight. When I opened my eyes, I felt lighter, satiated somehow, my perspective sky-blue. ✨
That day, I learned that the ritual of prayer is about connection - not only to god, or the divine, but with what is most important to us. Like trying to balance on one foot, It is only in the continual striving for balance that we achieve it. So, prayer is a ritual that adjusts and refines our inner equilibrium. Intention knows no limits - all walls are home to a heart speaking its truth. 💫
As I left the church, I noticed a small table. On the table was an old clay bowl with a sign above it reading: “Intenzioni di Preghiera”. One was supposed to write their prayer on a piece of paper and leave it in the bowl. The inter-lingual substantiation of my new interpretation of prayer lifted the corners of my mouth. I scrawled a sentence in my journal, ripped it out, and left it unfolded, face-up in the bowl.✨

ENG: The interior of the Hungarian Parliament is beautiful !!! 💫 Its decorations, mainly in gold and marble, make it one of the most sumptuous in the world, as its external façade let us imagine! It is possible to visit the interior thanks to numerous guided tours in various languages, for which a reservation is required. You can go to the site to make the tickets but you will hardly find a place for the next tour so my advice is to book it on the internet so you can choose the time that suits you best without breaking the day. The ticket price is around € 8.
