Nun genießt man die letzten Stunden mit den lieben Mitpatienten. Draußen in der Sonne🌞 weil es diese Woche schon wieder nach "Hause" geht. Sich das zu Hause nicht mehr als dieses anfühlt. Denn was klar ist, das es nochmal her geht.
 Noch zu viel ungeklärt und unverarbeitet ist, woran die letzten Wochen gekratzt wurde.
Wo der Schorf der Wunde abgezogen wurde und es nun daran geht die Blutung zu stillen.
Aber damit die Wunde endlich wieder heilen kann, muss man ein neues zu Hause finden🏡 Einen Ort, an dem man sicher ist.
Dann dem man zur Ruhe kommen kann.
Also stehen Veränderungen an.
Die so viel Angst machen.
Wo man doch eh schon so unsicher ist.
Auch wenn man weiß, dass man jeder Zeit anrufen darf. Nur ein paar Wochen durchhalten muss.⏳
Bis der liebe Therapeut wieder was von seiner Hoffnung schenkt,wenn die eigene nicht ausreicht.
Der dabei ist, und zum weitermachen motiviert wenn man wieder kurz davor ist alles hin zu werfen.🌪️
Denn man kann nicht wissen was einem auf dem Weg alles begegnet. Man findet nur heraus, wenn man geht 👣

Painful post-trauma states, such as anxiety, grief, flashbacks, distress, and depression are not “bad” and may not represent disorder - they are evidence for a healthy condition! .

These experiences represent access to one’s immediate awareness, which can then be cognitively and emotionally processed. .

At times we need to avoid and numb for our survival. But over time, medications that mask unwanted emotional states, drugs & alcohol, dissociating, avoiding discussing what happened, denial and thought suppression are shown to lead to the development of intrusive and chronic post traumatic syndromes. .

The pain paradox: we have been socialized to learn pain is bad. In an effort to remediate distress, we avoid our pain, which actually increases (not decreases) our pain. .

 The remedy: with the support of a trained therapist, mindfully titrate exposure to small increments of non-overwhelming traumatic memories and body sensations, in a way that is safe, appropriate and only to the extent that is possible right now. .

Learning to be with and tolerate your pain is depathologizing. Pain is a normal part of the human experience. Pain is an opportunity for awareness. We’ve got to feel it to heal it.

8 weeks ago I was discharged from my last Mental Health admission! I’m so proud of my progress! In the past year this has been the longest I’ve gone without an admission. I’m growing so much. Some things I’ve learnt are this: my body and my mind are worth respecting and treating well. My mind is capable of continual change and I’m seeing that bit by bit. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made, and how far I’ve come.

Take a stand use your voice 🗣and be that one to help turn the tides from suffering to life!

We want to extinguish the pain without curiously wondering where this pain is coming from and what it wants us to know. We know that we just want it to go away. Or, in some ways, we want it to stay because it’s safe and familiar.

{Nurturing parts} One time I propped a photo of myself against a trinket box on my dresser in an effort to motivate myself to lose weight. It was a photo I had decided I looked gross in. My wife questioned my behavior and lovingly explained to me how misguided I was in my thoughts and actions. At first I genuinely thought, how else do I motivate myself to lose this stupid weight? Over time I understood how the problem was never my weight and that I was unconsciously punishing myself for perceived faults and failures. Since then I embarked on this amazing journey of developing a nurturing part of me and helping others develop nurturing parts. ✨

Wir haben gestern keine Traumatherapie gemacht, denn sie möchte liebe eine Doppelstunde Zeit haben, aber wir haben darüber gesprochen mit welchen Themen wir anfangen wollen Dienstag. Außerdem hat sie mir erklärt das durch eine verarbeitete Erinnerung eventuell viel mehr hoch kommt. Ja das habe ich gestern Abend gemerkt, denn scheinbar hat das Gespräch gestern schon getriggert. Es war auf einmal so viel Wut, Verzweiflung, Enttäuschung und Traurigkeit da wie noch nie. Bis jetzt habe ich den Schmerz immer mit Selbstverletzen oder Fressatacken in Schach gehalten, hab verhindert das diese Gefühle hoch kommen. Gestern hab ich meine verlorene Kindheit betrauert und meine Wut gefühlt, dass niemand mich geschützt hat, dass ich mich um meine Eltern kümmern musste. Es kamen auch erste Erinnerungen (➡️ ich erinnere mich nämlich aus Selbstschutz an das meiste nicht) an meine traumatische Kindheit wieder hoch. Für mich war das sehr schwer auszuhalten doch am Ende hat die gute Vorbereitung mit meiner Therapeutin mich daran gehindert mich zu verletzen. Ich hätte nicht gedacht dass es so schwer sein könnte mit dem Schmerz umzugehen doch jetzt verstehe ich wieso ich so lange das selbst verletzen und die Essstörung gebraucht habe um damit klar zu kommen. Ich denke gerade jetzt wird die Zeit für mich sehr schwierig weil mit dem Verarbeiten kommen viele Gefühle die ich durch meine Erkrankung unterdrückt habe einfach auch wieder hoch und dass sie so lange unterdrückt waren hatte scheinbar einen guten Grund von daher kann es sein dass ich mich jetzt die nächste Zeit weniger melde oder nicht so positiv Berichte wie bisher, aber ich weiß auch dass ich es schaffen kann wenn ich es versuche und wenn ich mutig genug bin mich meiner Vergangenheit zu stellen.

As of last night I am officially in a relationship and have a boyfriend. In two weeks I graduate from a 12 month DBT program and have started EMDR therapy for my cPTSD. It’s tough, and I’m doing well. Food wise I’m doing pretty well. Study wise I’m doing really well and on top of both the Counselling degree and the Education Support Certificate. I’m back to band and absolutely loving playing every week. Volunteering every week in a school, looking to at hopefully coming back to church volunteering, I passed my first house inspection with flying colours and I’m still looking for a job. ‘Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong’

{EMDR as energy work?} Trauma is energetic information. Sometimes I think of a traumatic event like throwing stones into a body of water. Trauma is the ripples. The water comes back to stillness rather quickly but we, as humans, hold on to the trauma. Sometimes we even freeze and the ripples stay stuck. It’s our nervous systems, cells, and energy systems that are impacted. With appropriate intervention on these levels, not only can the  ripples smooth out but our systems then operate at a higher level.

To the EMDR folks out there... I know that EMDR is creating new neural pathways and activating the full brain for adaptive information processing. But do you understand EMDR to be releasing blocks in the body’s energy systems as well? My clinical experience tells me yes but I don’t always hear folks talking about it in these terms. Wow! There aren't enough words to describe how this place has changed my life....once again. Learning about trauma and the effects on our body, how to process it in the body realizing it is only temporary, and letting it go has been mind blowing. EMDR has been life changing. It doesn't erase the past, but it lessens the blow in order to keep living in balance. I have been dealing with a lot of emotional trauma lately. For the last couple of years I have been severely depressed, unmotivated, and detached. It has been a constant battle with myself for many years. I can sense that I am approaching a spiritual breakthrough in my life. While it is exciting, it is also overwhelmingly horrifying. I have been faced with a lot of internal demons recently, and flooding memories from my childhood. I tend to suppress experiences in my life that create chaos or uncertainty. It is something I did for most of my youth. I am quite literally, tired of avoiding the issues all together.

I am scheduled to see a therapist soon and I have finally worked up the energy to go to the Doctor and get back on my medication. I am ready to do some soul-searching and to share my experiences and struggles. I am in the process of creating my own personal blog, in hopes of helping others with similar issues. While I want to (and will continue to) focus on caring for the environment, I know that my mind needs more focus than ever right now.

At the medical center they are assessed for supportive and detox medications, mental health status, and a physical body assessment. Any need for bloodwork and EKG will be done onsite. Culture tells us that emotions make us weak, soft or broken if in abundance. This narrative will have us believe that there is something wrong with us when feeling emotional and it can lead us to disconnect from ourselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I used to really believe this and as a highly sensitive person, that was hard to bear.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, the more I go along in this work, I feel that this idea couldn't be further from the truth. Our capacity to be with our emotions gives us a great sense of inner wisdom and is fierce as hell. We are better able to help ourselves when we allow ourselves to feel our emotions. They are a crucial data point to our understanding how to navigate life, if you will.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And, yet, it's hard to undo this acculturation with logic alone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is where "feeling with" comes into play and, to me, this is where things get interesting. While there are many tools that are helpful in therapy, this complexly simple idea of "feeling with" is unique and powerful. It's also not often cultivated through professional training alone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's the kind of tool that ironically gets stronger through doing one's own personal work and finding the courage to allow some humanness to show up with clients in a safe, differentiated way. As feminist therapists would say -- "the personal is professional and the professional is personal."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we are able to maintain a grounded stance and "feel with" it's like a spark. It fosters acknowledgement and the sense that one is not alone with this feeling. It conveys the possibility that this feeling can be safely experienced. And, thus, opens a safe passageway for clients to connect to their feelings and their own self-sufficiency.

I hear it all the time, “Im not telling someone all my business” or “I don’t feel like telling the same story over and over again” as excuses for not going to therapy. Well let me let you know, any good Therapist is not gonna ask you to tell your story right away. Your therapist will want to build a professional relationship with you 1st, help you to feel safe in their presence and teach you techniques that make you feel safe outside of their presence.Once you’re comfortable, the story telling begins and by then it should feel like talking to an old friend☺️ SoO don’t let those things we were taught as young black kids growing up stop you from getting the help you need.
