🇺🇸🇬🇧 Good morning bookies 💗
Summer isn't the best time for reading for me but this year I want to do better.
In the past I liked to read the really big books like 'War and Peace' during the summer time.
This year we have planned a Harry Potter special during summer and I would really love to read the beautiful illustrated editions by Jim Kay. Shame in me that I haven't done that yet 🙈
Tad Williams and of course some Tolkien is on my summer reading list too.
Do you have a summer TBR? Which books do you like reading in summer?
“I wish I was at home in my nice hole by the fire, with the kettle just beginning to sing!”
-Bilbo Baggins (The Hobbit)
Happy Tolkien Tuesday, folks! For me, it’s that kind of evening where I just want a nice, rich mug of hot chocolate with a couple of s’mores to nibble on! Then, I’m ending the night with a good book!
Have I told you how much I love my LOTR throw gifted to me by my dear @muggle_library? It’s so beautiful to snuggle in! It’s a creation of @sweetsequels! I’ve always wanted this, and I’m beyond ecstatic that I can now burrow beneath it! Thank you so much, Ashley!
QOTD: Tag anyone you want to have a slumber party with!
I guess you could say #BookReviewTuesday is all about my favorite book... though it wasn’t hard to pick which copy would make the picture! Even though some of my copies are really pretty, this one has a special place in my heart. Check out my review on #annakatrinaartistry , link is in the bio!
“The Shire is much closer to a proper ideal. Life is not made for managing but for living. It is this tender reality that whispers to the hearts of modern folk when they pick up Tolkien. It is not a demand that there be no technology, but that the spiritual center of the world be restored. We do not need to become Hobbits. We do need, however, to return to being human.” -Fr Stephen Freeman ...
I got tagged by @alyoops1 to share my top 3 #happy things of the day. #mytop3
1. I didn't feel 100% but made sure to get to #kickboxing class tonight anyway. I gavr it my all, kicked ass, and was drenched in sweat at the end. I'm getting better and I feel more content in my own body. I still have a ways to go with dismorphia and insecurity, but progress is progress and for that I'm really grateful.
2. I've been working on items for the vendor fair this June, but I'm also making a concerted effort to continue working on something just for myself here and there. I almost never make for myself. My #tolkien#middleearth#map#dicetray is looking so good. To see all these pencil lines disappear is so encouraging. And I haven't made any mistakes yet! #knockonwood#dontfuckitup
3. Spring has sprung finally. The flowers are blooming. It's that lovely time where more color appears out in the world every day. The breeze is still crisp and invigorating and the sun is warm and cuddly. Also Infinity Wars because #nerdlife .
Happy people, arise! I tag @awkwardlyaliveblog, @trumpetguy91, @danthelightingman to post about three things that make them happy. #spreadjoy
“May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.” ~J.R.R. Tolkien (Galadriel, The Fellowship of the Ring) 🍃✨🍃✨🍃
I think we all have something that gives us light and hope in our lives. Maybe it’s a good friend, a goal we are working toward, our faith journey, the promise of a mocha...whatever it is, we hold on to that light and keep on going, no matter the struggle. Galadriel, Gandalf, Sam, Aragorn...so many of Tolkien’s characters understand this. The words of Aragorn live in my heart: “There is always hope!” (The Two Towers)
May we strive to be lights in the world! ✨🍃✨🍃✨
Thinking about this as the Scriptorium bustles with writers this evening, a strange bunch, I the strangest: "When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." #cslewis#tolkien#oxfordcreativewritingmasterclass#creativewriting#writersofinstagram#dontmissout bondbooks.net
End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.. White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise. -Gandalf
Rían was the daughter of Belegund of the House of Bëor. She was young when the Dagor Bragollach took place and after this Belegund became one of Barahir’s outlaws in Dorthonion. It was overtaken when Dorthonion was betrayed by Gelmir, so Rían and many other women and children escaped to Dor-lómin. There she married Huor of the house of Hador, but they were married for only two months because Huor joined with his brother Húrin to fight in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. Unfortunately Huor was slain, and his body went to a great mound of bodies in the midst of the Anfauglith called Haudh-en-Nirnaeth. Rían heard of this and - after sending her son Tuor to the Elves of Mithrim - died of grief upon this mound. She was twenty-two years old when she died.

Of the Fifth Battle
Though the battlefield was lost after Fingon’s defeat, the Gondolindrim continued to fight with Huor, Húrin, and the remainder of the House of Hador. Still the armies of Morgoth pressed against the Pass of Sirion but could not win it. Húrin begged Turgon to retreat to Gondolin while the Men of Dor-lómin fought in the rearguard. However, in this retreat, Huor was slain by a poisoned arrow to the eye. The House of Hador was slain in heaps, but Húrin continued to fight alone with all strength left in him. Each time he slew a foe he cried, “Aurë entuluva! Day shall come again!” Seventy times he cried this until he was overtaken by Gothmog and mercilessly dragged to Angband alive. The Nirnaeth Arnoediad had ended, a mass victory for Morgoth over the Elves and Men.

Of the Fifth Battle
On the western side of the battle, Morgoth’s forces came three times larger than all that was left to Fingon and Turgon. Then Gothmog, Lord of the Balrogs and captain of Angband, joined the battle. He cast aside the armies of the Elvenhosts to surround Fingon and draw Turgon to the Fen of Serech. Then Fingon was approached alone by Gothmog until another Balrog came and surrounded him with fire. Alas Gothmog cast his black axe upon the Elf until his helm was destroyed, and the High King of the Noldor fell. They trampled him with their maces, and they trampled his blue and silver banner with his blood.

A recipe that started as a white chicken chili effortlessly evolved into a purple chili with pork. Because we love black beans and bacon in our home!
"If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." ~The Hobbit, JRR Tolkien
