This picture is so bright, we had to start our morning off with it. We can’t say we’d judge you, if this strawberry shortbread tart showed up on your breakfast table 🍰 It’s that good! For the strawberries: slice 1qt of strawberries add 1/4c of honey, the juice and zest of one lemon, and fresh mint. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Full tart recipe coming to the blog today!
Yeeaooow! It's Pretzel time! A monk in Italy created the snack around 610 A.D. for his students. He twisted the dough to make it look like praying hands, crossed and close on the chest. Happy Pretzel Day! #nationalpretzelday
'Tropical' arepa from @bienmesabechicago in Ravenswood, Chicago
Best arepa in Chicago? I'll let @nkindelsperger decide--but this is the best I've had in Chicago so far. I've spent most of my life having subpar arepas growing up in LA of all places, so this was a welcome surprise! This arepa was basically a cornbread pocket rather than the typical moisture vacuum I've grown accustomed to.
Also, Wednesdays for dinner at BienMeSabe feature a $5.99 arepa special. This Tropical one featured shredded chicken, plantains, and beans; though the shredded chicken itself was a tad dry and bland, it was hardly noticeable when eating all the fillings together. Overall a very satisfying and affordable meal.
I'll be coming back Wednesdays pretty regularly for now on.
