I have upwards of ten digital illustrations to hammer out today for a client’s website design, and I can’t help but think that in two weeks I will be free to pick up a pencil again. I can’t wait for the day when I can do my art and design work sans creative clashing with other people. That day will be coming soon. Meanwhile, enjoy a Gorey knockoff as I reminisce about the glorious time in which I wasn’t doing grunt work ✨
I checked through #thegashlycrumbtinies by #edwardgorey to see if any of my friends had delightfully ghastly deaths proscribed for them. I am happy to report that Amy Ennen, @cjaopperman, @kate.francia, and the adorable fur baby Olive of @qassyehall all feature.
This is just one of the many services you can look forward to, should you have the honor of being forcibly befriended by yours truly.
#TBT Happy birthday Edward Gorey! Here is a painting titled "Gorey Cat" that I submitted to Gorey-esque Magazine (swipe) that was published 3 years ago! Gorey loved cats, and I admire his style. I absolutley had to create something for this magazine.
I'm working on making prints and stickers of this piece! Stay tuned!!
Happy birthday Edward Gorey!! Gorey is one of my inspirations as an artist. Known for his black and white, pen & ink illustrations, his surreal noir macabre style is what caught my attention. Gorey is a Chicago native, and even attended the same school I did! (The School of the Art Institute) Useless fact:
Director Mark Romanek's music video for the Nine Inch Nails song "The Perfect Drug" was designed specifically to resemble a Gorey book, with familiar Gorey elements including oversized urns, topiary plants and glum, pale characters in full Edwardian costume ♡
“There are so many things we've been brought up to believe that it takes you an awfully long time to realize that they aren't you.”
Pumpkinhead would like to wish the incomparable Edward Gorey a very happy birthday. Thank you for all your weirdness. 💀
Only 251 days until Halloween!
