Words of wisdom from my Drawing 1 teacher have always stuck with me. She encouraged us to trust our own vision for our artwork. It is YOUR painting after all. Feedback and critique is, of course, so extremely helpful. I’ve learned to trust myself in knowing if feedback rings true or not. There have been times when I’ve followed the suggestions of a teacher or friend or even my husband knowing deep known that it didn’t feel right with what I was envisioning. Not trusting myself produced frustration that translated into paintings I was not happy with. Other times, I instantly knew the feedback was spot on and wholeheartedly embraced it. The whole process of painting is ultimately about trusting yourself!
