#Tonkotsu • This used to be #Ekachia in #Selfridges , one of our favourite #SouthEastAsian#Cuisine places to eat at, so we had to see what was up with the eatery that had replaced it •
The meat or chicken are NOT halal but they did have a #Prawn#Katsu#Curry (£9.75) and #Veg#KatsuCurry (£9.45) on the menu and we have to say we were pleasantly surprised •
The curry was actually a curry with bits of potato as opposed to the normal gravy sauce given with a katsu 😂 The prawn and veg #tempura were large in size and served with an even portion of rice. Overall the dish was perfectly balanced •
Sorry #Yakinori but if it wasn’t for the fact that your #chicken was #halal , this would have been our new fave spot for a katsu! •

Exceptional value in Tokyo, 950¥ for rice topped with 2 prawns, giant anago (saltwater eel), squid, 1/2 egg, pepper, and nori. Not the best tempura I’ve ever had but it’s definitely solid.
Apparently it commands crazy hour+ queues during the day, I went ~40 mins before closing and barely waited.

This is the best i had ! Its far better than tempura kondo .
Batter is crispy and Thin. Most importantly it has a very sweet taste to it and you can just eat everything in *thumbs up* Cant remember the exact orientation of the dish later on . The third picture features sweet potato tempura 🍠 i dint eat it. But i was told it taste very sweet and tasty 😋. So i do recommend people to try and add this in (not included in my set ) . The next good one was scallop! 1 star michellin . Tempura fukamachi てんぷら深町 I have tried before tempura Kondo (2* michellin ) which batter was thicker than fukamachi . I still prefer tempura fukamachi despite one star. So far the best for some of the tempura dishes i had . *||* 🌟 Bacallà en tempura amb "Alma" de caviar. Fem una tempura amb farina d'arròs, farina de cigró, pebre i aigua gelada. A la tempura banyem el bacallà fresc, que haurem tingut mitja hora en salmorra i el fregim en abundant oli d'oliva calent. Posem al plat una base de tempura fregida, a sobre el bacallà i per sobre empolvorem Alma de caviar (caviar deshidratat i mòlt) de @riofriocaviar.
*||* 🇪🇸 Bacalao en tempura con "alma" de caviar. Hacemos una tempura con harina de arroz, harina de garbanzo, pimienta y agua helada. En la tempura bañamos el bacalao fresco, que habremos tenido media hora en salmuera y lo freimos en abundante aceite de oliva caliente. Ponemos en el plato una base de tempura frita, encima el bacalao y por encima espolvoreamos Alma de caviar (caviar deshidratado y molido) de @riofriocaviar.
*||* 🇬🇧 Cod in tempura with "soul" of caviar. We make a tempura with rice flour, chickpea flour, pepper and ice water. In the tempura we bathe the fresh cod, which we have had half an hour in brine and fry it in abundant hot olive oil. Put on the plate a base of fried tempura, on top of the cod and sprinkle over Alma de caviar (dehydrated and ground caviar) of @riofriocaviar. -------------------------------------
So one night after we got back to our Hotel (Hotel Keihan Kyobashi) from Universal Studios Japan, we were so tired to go far for dinner, we just asked the girl in the front desk if she knew of any tempura restaurants nearby. She drew a dot on a proximity map and gave us directions on how to get there, and going there I even had to ask someone where this place was. We ended up in a small third floor joint that can sit just 10 people. Luckily the two japanese ladies in one of the tables moved to the counter so my family can sit (the japanese are really thoughtful and considerate people). We ordered four pieces of 🍤 tempura, some 🐔 karaage (fried chicken) and also some 🥩. (There was no english menu and prices were not clear so just pointed at the menu to order). The long wait for the food was totally worth it. The steak was terrific (no pics because I ate it as soon as I saw it), the karaage and tempura were probably the BEST I’ve ever had. The tempura were huge, and you can even eat the crunchy meat in the heads. Two take aways from this dinner.
1. Don’t be afraid to ask locals where to eat (they really know the best places)
2. Always ask how much the food is before you order 😓. The dinner was also the most expensive we had. 😅
