3-5 Players •
I finally played Puerto Rico! Since it was recently my birthday, I got to pick whatever game I wanted for our Friday game night. It was a full 5 player game, and it was a blast!
I really enjoyed how the role selection mechanism works in the game, as it really makes sequencing important. Player seating order is also important, but I knew that going in. I also like how the role selection keeps everyone engaged. Even though our game took a bit over two hours, it didn't feel that long, as we were constantly thinking about what to do next.
I went for a violet building strategy, and it didn't fully come together for me. I tried to build a tobacco based economy, but after I had started, my girlfriend, sitting directly to my right, also started going for tobacco, which seriously limited the money I could make from it. She went heavy in goods production, and pulled out the win! In my next play, I will know better what to do, and I can't wait to play again!
Are there any other Puerto Rico fans out there? That's probably a dumb question 😅 until next time, happy gaming everyone!
We got to demo Dungeon Rush by @strongholdgames. Such a fun, hectic and quick game. When I saw quick, I mean quick. It plays fast and lasts only 15-20 minutes. One of the fellas picked it up after we played it. Look out for it! #bggcon
So there's a new 42nd anniversary edition of #CosmicEncounter coming out, which is super exciting... except... It sounds like the biggest changes are translucent spaceships (which I'm not sold on as being better than the solid ones based on the promotional photos) and cards giving you themed lists of aliens to play as (but it's not clear why playing as those particular aliens is better than randomly choosing aliens, and the lists are for 3-5 players so don't work anyway if you have a sixth player with Cosmic Incursion).
I'll still stop to look if I see a copy, but I'm not feeling the need to replace my existing copy with this. Am I missing anything, @fantasyflightgames?
Trying out Hammer of the Scots, a simple block wargame retelling the Scottish Wars of Independence. Something different, yet recently relevant to us. Also, Braveheart 😊 . The "fog of war" created by the hidden blocks is quite cool! 👍
Adding in some artwork to the Theia manuscript. I find this stage makes a book feel very real, and gives me the energy to drive to push through that mid-book lull. I’m pretty happy so far 😊
