There are many reasons why women may develop stress urinary incontinence (SUI)
It can either be due to weakening of the pelvic floor muscles affecting urethral support 👎🏻
Or it may be due to a problem of the bladder neck affecting the urethral sphincter mechanism 🤓 👎🏻
SUI may be due to a combination of both of these problems 👎🏻👎🏻 and may be caused by:
⭐️ pregnancy ⭐️ childbirth - especially a more difficult birth such as a forceps delivery ⭐️ being overweight ⭐️ having a chronic cough ⭐️ straining, pushing or bearing down to help pass stool (poo) ⭐️ repetitive lifting - especially heavy lifting ⭐️after having gynaecological surgery ⭐️ women who are hypermobile (flexible or bendy) who have NEVER been pregnant ⭐️ women who do lots of sport who have NEVER been pregnant.... Gymnasts and dancers are especially vulnerable...

💥💥Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the topic of the week 💥💥
The definition of SUI according to The International Continence Society 🤓 is... “the complaint of involuntary leakage on effort or exertion, or on sneezing or coughing”
SUI can occur when laughing, playing with the kids, during sport/exercise, during sex.... and for some women even on a quick sudden movement such as standing up 😏
SUI is common but it is NOT NORMAL
The amount of leakage can vary... For some women, it might be a drop but for others it may severely wet the underwear
I’ll be posting about causes of SUI and some treatment options (mainly physiotherapy 👊🏻)
If you have any questions about SUI, please post here ⬇️ or DM me! •

A question that comes up is how does Female Rejuvenation with Votiva work? Votiva is a device that can treat symptoms both inside and outside of the female genitalia. One of the hand pieces that is used is the Forma V. Forma V is the first and only thermal vaginal skin tightening device that has an automatic cut-off temperature and monitoring control that makes the treatment quick, uniform, and has the optimal tightening temperature for the best result. Because of this kind of control, patients cannot be burned.
So what does Forma V do? Forma V can be performed both internally and externally to help tighten areas that experience laxity and looseness. Outer appearance can be tightened while internally, treat symptoms from estrogen loss that could lead to issues such as stress urinary incontinence.
In #PHRCJC , Nicole Davis of #PHRCSF presents. Here is what she has to say: A recent article released by the Journal of Urology assessed the association between serum testosterone levels and urinary incontinence. In a survey group of 2,300 women over the age of 20 years, half of the participants reported either stress, urge or mixed urinary incontinence. Of these women, those with lower testosterone levels (<6.54 ng/dl) were more likely to report stress or mixed urinary incontinence.
Numerous studies site androgen receptors in the levator ani muscles and pubocervical fascia that support the urethra and other pelvic organs. Prior experimental rat studies suggest testosterone supplementation may improve both levator ani tone and decrease Valsalva leak pressure point. As such, there may be potential in using testosterone as an adjunct to standard treatments, such as pelvic floor physical therapy, to treat stress urinary incontinence. We know that exogenous testosterone has had therapeutic effects on women with vaginal dryness, sexual satisfaction and painful intercourse.
In this current study, only serum testosterone data was available. It is likely that unbound testosterone, testosterone precursors and androgen receptor sensitivity also play a role in incontinence; proposing an interesting gap literature. Further research is also needed to more clearly define normal testosterone levels, as the range appears to be quite variable/large. #stressurinaryincontinence#urgeincontinence#mixedincontinence#testosterone#femalepelvichealth#pelvichealth#pelvicfloordysfunction#pelvicfloorphysicalterapy#pelvicmafia#androgenreceptors#leaking#painfulsex#vaginaldryness#menopause#pelvicfloorPT

Am I the only one? Sure am not. But I will be the one to tell you that it’s not ‘normal’. Not normal in the sense of ‘that’s life, just accept it like all the other moms out there’ normal. There are options. -
And after 8 months of physical therapy and additional doctor appointments, surgery is the next option for me. 💩
Now just to find a time when I don’t want to lift weights for 12 weeks during the recovery period. Hmmm, 🤔 let’s see...scheduling the appointment then for the...10th of Never! ✔️

As you may know, we always advise seeing a health care professional if you experience any changes in your #bladderfunction . However, with so many specialties in the medical field, knowing which doctor to consult can get confusing. We want to share some valuable info via the NAFC's website, where you can also use their "Specialist Locator" to find a physician near you!
We listed some of the specialties and their description below, see the more
👉PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN:
The Family Medicine doctor will help you identify the type of #incontinence you have and talk with you about your options. He/she may prescribe medication or other treatment, or, for more advanced cases, refer you to a specialist focused in #urology .
Similar to family medicine doctors, internists provide general care, but usually only to adults.
These doctors specialize in managing problems with the male and female #urinarytract , and male reproductive organs. Most urologists are surgeons, and many may specialize further in a sub-specialty, such as pediatrics, female urology or gynecology.
A Gynecologist specializes in the reproductive health of women. Some gynecologists have special training in diagnosing and treating #urinaryincontinence and prolapse (often urogynecologists).
An ob-gyn who has advanced training in #pelvicfloordysfunction in women. Women with #stressurinaryincontinence or pelvic organ prolapse are often referred to a urogynecologist for treatment.
#PhysicalTherapists that focus on women’s health often treat #pelvicfloor disorders, which cover a wide range of problems such as incontinence, #pelvicpain , pelvic organ prolapse, or joint pain. #PhysicalTherapy aims to strengthen and relax the muscles of the pelvic floor with physical activity programs.
A doctor specialized in obstetrics and gynecology is a doctor who manages the reproductive health of women, family planning, pregnancy, and postnatal health.
I’ve learned a lot in the last 2.5 years since giving birth to my daughter...I learned that my body can break and be put back together again. Time, patience and #pelvicfloorphysicaltherapy and my #stressurinaryincontinence and #pelvicpain are gone. I don’t have symptoms of a #cystocele and my #diastasisrecti is almost where I want it!Meet your body where it is, even if it means performing a modified plank! Am I getting a great core workout when I modify? Absolutely! To me, reaching failure means staying in control of my body at all times because once I don’t have control, I put my body at risk for re-injury. That’s right, I can undue the last 2.5 years with bad strategies! BREATHE! Exercise in front of a mirror. Don’t let yourself cheat. #whatmovesyou
DOUBLE UNDERS & PEEING YOUR PANTS?! 😫
(Use your pelvic floor)
Ladies, listen up! Double unders - two passes of the rope for every jump - are a great cardio exercise, and very common in many crossfit-style workouts. But they too frequently cause a little leak during jumping. This is NOT 🙅🏼♀️something that should 'just happen with double unders'.
Use your pelvic floor. ✨ Pelvic floor muscles (those between your legs) work in sync with stability and control muscles of your abdominal wall, spine and diaphragm in a corset-type action.
Check your skipping style - an overextended spine position means your abs aren’t braced, and turns off your pelvic floor. Instead, try squeezing your glutes (butt) to set the pelvis neutral, and holding your belly tight to brace. 👌🏼This is the optimal position for your pelvic floor muscles to function, and stop that leaking - remember it will need to be practiced and trained.
‼️As always, if this is a more common/serious issue, see a specialized pelvic floor physiotherapist for more specifically directed exercises for your body!
On this cold winter Chicago day, I received another message from one of my patients who had female rejuvenation. I absolutely love hearing from my patients who have noticed results almost immediately! Messages like these truly brighten my day. ☀️💫💛
If you are dealing with stress urinary incontinence and the possibly embarrassing moments when urine leaks because of laughing hard, sneezing, exercising, coughing, having sex and even standing up, your doctor may recommend you begin an exercise program. For more info ➡️ Link in bio!
