Happy AUTISM AWARENESS Month!
Meet Zach, one of my awesome students that happens to have Autism. Despite some of the typical stereotypes of Autism, this kid is a social butterfly and loves interacting with people. He is silly, lighthearted, loves to laugh and makes everything fun. .
Zach teaches me how to embrace authenticity and the importance of loving myself. He is comfortable with who he is and is always striving to learn from previous situations and become better today than he was yesterday. .
We’ve been working on handling our emotions, emphasizing the power of choices and focusing on choosing to be happy - especially when times get tough and things don’t go our way. Zach is learning that when we choose to be happy and look for the positive, it’s actually easier to make good choices. .
Zach also reminds me of the importance of having good, solid friends. I have seen his confidence grow and his social awareness increase, as he's constantly surrounded by his peers that include him, support him and celebrate their commonalities, as well as their differences. .
Oh Zach-a-wanna, Miss Clark loves you soooo much! You make me feel like the LUCKIEST teacher on the planet. I’m your biggest fan! 😊 #justlikeyou#autismawarenessmonth#autism#awareness#April#love#MissClark#teacher#spectrum#ASD#specialeducation#bestjobintheworld#love#bestfriends#lightitupblue#puzzlepiece “Autism is just a piece of who I am.”

Re-post from @autismbc! Our Head of School Dr. Christopher attended the award show on Friday. We were honoured to be shortlisted for Business of the Year at the British Columbia Excellence in #Autism awards. #SpecialEducation
In todays episode of this #teacherlife as the school year winds down I’ve decided to focus on some non curriculum activities & introduce my students to #logic via games, task cards etc This country doesn’t need any more ppl out in the world who can’t think straight. 🤪
This girl. This girl right here is the one who made me a mom and made me want to be a better mom for her. We have been through thick and thin since the day she was born. From the day she came home from her five week NICU stay, we knew that she was a little different. Hannah has autism; we are so lucky that she got her diagnosis when she was 3 and a half, because most girls who are on the spectrum don't get diagnosed, are misdiagnosed, or aren't properly diagnosed until the ages between 10-12 years old.
Everything I do is for Hannah and her brother, and I will continue fighting to make sure that their quality of education is there, and that they get every service to help them. Autism is not an excuse or a label; it is as unique as it is the person with the disorder.
I enjoyed this session so much! This activity was for one of my kids that needs extra movement in her routine. She is constantly seeking vestibular input in the form of spinning at inappropriate times and she needs help with self-regulation as she often gets over aroused with the sensory stimulation. The idea was for her to work on a task that requires higher level thinking during a movement activity in order to work on that regulation. It worked wonders! She was very motivated by the task, she was able to follow directions, and find the letters of the words we were spelling, all while on a therapy swing. She has been getting better and better at this as before as she was unable to sustain attention while on a swing because of the dysregulation. The idea is for her to learn to be in control of her body and be able to regulate herself as she processes vestibular stimulation :)
I got to meet the best service dog and look round a fantastic school. Today was a good Tuesday.
