Making spice kits at @mosaico.house ✨ We spent the afternoon with the young people who live here in this wonderful safe space and shelter for women and children in #Athens .
Together we learnt new words in Arabic, Farsi, Greek and English whilst dreaming up meals to cook with these new kits (Afghan chicken 🥘 and Cinnabon’s 🍩!) Some of the kids made kits to give as gifts to their mothers and others gave them as gifts to themselves 💖 We all had such a good time together and we’ll be back to make something else together next week 🌱
The spice kits project started back in March when we visited @ecolintgeneva and their students made a whole load of kits for us to take out on the road. Along the way we give them and their attached messages of welcome and solidarity to people who need them, then give people the chance to make a new kit and message to pass on to someone else. Thank you #Geneva from Athens!

The most pleasant sides of our work!
GUS Albania as local partner of the project "Back to the Future" (funded by the Italian Ministry of Interior) has contributed to buy a car for the beneficiary family. The vehicle is essential for the transportation for the child's medical treatment. In fact the project "Back to the Future" aims to help reintegration of the beneficiaries into the daily life in the original country. Their smiles were the most rewarding thing of the day!
British Actress @misstipper wearing a campaign t-shirt, showing her support for #weareallwindrush and voicing her outrage at this scandal: •••••••••••••••
" I am half Dominican (the island just next to Guadeloupe) and half British, and like so many of the black and mixed raced faces you see on your UK AND US tv screens, WE are descendants of the Windrush generation. SO many of us come from working class backgrounds, from families that came to Britain and built a new life here and ADDED so much value to the economy, building Britain into the place we love and know it to be today. And a lot of us descendants pay ALOT of tax to the UK government. The Windrush generation have as much right to be here as any one else and SO DO WE. Please support this cause and buy a t-shirt/donate some money :) Im smiling in this pic but I am OUTRAGED.
WE ARE ALL WINDRUSH!
@folaevansakingbola & @urbananthropology (Gillian Evans) good on ya ladies, and thank you ❤️ #weareallwindrush "
This year is the 70th Anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush ship to Britain from the Caribbean. The British Nationality Act 1948 gave British citizenship to all people living in Commonwealth countries with full rights of entry and settlement in Britain. The people who arrived here in the 50s and 60s, after being invited by the British government, have become an intrinsic part of British society; paying taxes, rebuilding the country and making countless contributions to Britain and who we are as a society and culture.
Now, after decades of living and working here, some members of the “Windrush Generation” are being threatened with deportation. The government’s hostile immigration policies are having devastating effects: British citizens have lost their jobs, lost their homes, their access to healthcare has been restricted, they have been separated from their families and have been caused huge amounts of emotional distress.
Our studio holder @majapiechockacandles , who made the candles lit in this week's public memorial service for the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing, shares this message: "Today is the first anniversary of the Manchester Arena Bombing that took lives of twenty two innocent people, it also harmed and traumatised thousands of others. For those people as well as families and friends of the victims, life will never be the same again. My heart goes out to all of them and hope that they find the love and strength to carry on.
It has been a great honour for me to be able to create a candle for each person that lost their life in this tragic event. The candles were lit during today’s congregation at the Manchester Cathedral and will be given to the families afterwards. I am eternally grateful to be able to contribute and to experience all the incredible and selfless acts that people of Manchester are doing every day to help and to show their support."
ASOEBI! ASOEBI!! PART 1.
Aso Ebi is a uniform dress that is traditionally worn in Nigeria and some West African cultures as an indicator of cooperation and solidarity during ceremonies and festive periods.
The word ‘ASO’ in Yoruba means cloth and ‘EBI’ denotes family, so ASOEBI can be described as a family cloth usually worn during family ceremonies. However, the practice is now beyond family dressing because strangers of a celebrant can wear the Aso ebi.
William Bascom traced the origin to an earlier period when members of Yoruba age grades wear uniform dressing to mark fraternal bonds.
In the 1950s, members of women organizations or egbes turn out to ceremonies and anniversaries of relatives in the same style of dress, sandals, lappa, smock, necklace, the culture signifies close friendship. .
This uniform dressing can also be a measure of personal affluence, because Aso ebi involves rivalry between various groups with each competing to outshine the other in terms of quality, originality and richness of the uniform.
The purpose of wearing the dress can be to serve as self-identification with age mates, relatives or friends during social occasions.
Affordability of fabrics such as Ankara has contributed to the popularity of uniform dressing for social occasions in Nigeria and West Africa.

Did you know? A Sardinian tradition, locally called "Sa paradura", provides that all sheperds donate one or more sheep to the sheperd that loses his flock, for any reason, like a natural disaster.
This also happened recently. Last year Sardinian sheperds donated 1000 sheep to Umbrian population, hit by the earthquake. This year Umbrian people returned the favor, sending to the island the lambs born of the donated sheep.
