On Friday, Ireland will vote on whether to repeal the eighth amendment to their constitution, which says a mother and fetus have equal rights to life. The debate has been contentious, and Irish the world over are traveling back to cast their votes. Currently, if women are seeking an abortion in Ireland they have to leave the country. It is reported that in Ireland, an average of nine women a day travel for an abortion. A “yes” vote would repeal the amendment, and be a huge step in offering women the right to choose #repealthe8th
What does being a first-generation Filipino-American in today’s society mean to me? Two words come to mind. Representation and responsibility.
It’s knowing I need to use my voice to reframe the marginalizing rhetoric of Asian-Americans as the “model minority.” It’s the duty to challenge the demeaning and hateful microaggressions—and often outright violent verbal and physical attacks—that occur to members of the community, and sadly sometimes go unheard. It’s constantly bridging the gap between two identities and feeling some semblance of being viewed as whole. It’s solidarity with other peoples of color.
Even with the challenges, I love being a Filipino-American. I love that I can share in two worlds. Taking the best parts of each and sharing in a unique experience, giving back to this glorious melting pot. What I don’t love is that, we can contribute and excel, yet not be accepted and seen as fellow citizens. Forever foreigners.
Shout! Shout! Up with your song! 🎶🎶 Rehearsals with some of the members of the #Manchester Marking the Martyrs Choir this eve. Many thanks to Zoe and the team for such a warm welcome. They just let me sing along with them to my suffragette heart's content! North West peeps do #swipeleft for the event flyer. The choral and suffrage parade will take place on Saturday 2nd June. 💜💚 Step Up | Vote | Lead | Because #youmatter | 🌍 bit.ly/Emilymatters #Emilymatters
Seguimos trabajando!!
The number of migrants is growing in Velika Kladuša (Bosnia) due the proximity to the Slovenian border and the increasing difficulty to cross from Serbia. So, two weeks ago we started working on a permanent shower system where around 35 people are living.
Besides, we also provide warm showers 4 hours a day for the people living all around the city, and as we are doing in Serbia, we provide clean shocks, underwear, t-shirts and towels that we wash to recycle as much as possible. Let's keep on working!!

Llama, Llama, OH THE DRAMA!
For all you #boymoms out there who claim girls have so much drama, let me tell you what! I've had 6 girls in this house and only 2 boys but THIS BOY has acquired #allthedrama
I have been sorting his clothes all stinking day, I ask him to try shorts on and I get full on melt down about how many pair there are.
I ask him to choose his FAVORITE SHIRTS (because we only have 75, it's beyond ridiculous) and he agrees to purge 3 😣
I will finish🏁 this closet tonight if it kills me and he gets 20 outfits. The rest we are passing around to our foster friends #fosterlove#stopthemadness#icanteven#thiscallsforwine
