Various pictures from Skopje’s city center along its riverfront - a nice mix of marble palaces, modern glass facades and even a medieval fortress. In the background on the last few photos is Mt. Vodno, topped by the 66m/215ft tall steel Millenium Cross.
The Catholic Church regards Mother Teresa as a saint, others have criticized her motives and the quality of care she provided. Fact is that she was born in Skopje in 1910, and the city has constructed a chapel/memorial in her honor.
In the heart of Skopje is a huge statue and water fountain dedicated to the most famous Macedonian of all time. Alexander the Great became King of Macedonia in 336 BC, and until his death in 323 BC, he had built one of the largest empires in world history, stretching from Greece and Egypt across the Middle East and Persia to Western India.
