Advances in contemplative neuroscience and evolutionary biology have validated many ancient observations about the nature of reality and consciousness that Buddhist schools have refined over the last 2500 years, resulting in what some see as a new paradigm of compassionate humanistic rationalism (or as New York Times op-ed columnist, David Brooks, would say, ’Neural Buddhism’). And this evolution couldn’t come at a more critical time.

Many students of mindfulness find themselves waking up from the trance of personal anxiety or worry only to watch their newsfeed and wonder, “What in the heck is going on?!?” We need a grand philosophical lens to help us make sense of our experience in an ever-changing and complex world.
.
Join Brian Shiers, MA, CMF, AMFT on Sunday 4/22 from 10am-4pm for Awake In a New World, a day-long semi-silent mindfulness retreat. Students will practice sitting and walking meditation, and review the fundamental tenets of secular Buddhist psychology that intersect with science. Details at lamaida.org

I'm back online.
I'm back online and I'm absolutely hopeless. I've already managed to message the wrong people 🤦🏼♀️😂
How bloody awesome am I.
Happy to be able to contact my friends abroad again as I've missed you all and your beaming faces a lot. Like.... a lot, a lot.
Reunited with my witchy poo Mila and it's Japanese for dinner tonight

On our way to a long weekend silent retreat and all we can think of is whether or not there will be enough food! Silence is golden but hunger is torture (for us, anyway). So, just in case.... We’ll take a burger with the lot, a side of fries and a buttery corn cob (by the way, this burger joint in Moss Vale is the bomb diddly. Drooly food and cool old school vibes).
Good morning Friday. What do you have in store for me today? What choices am I going to make? What decisions am I going to chose. What thoughts am I going to have? What feelings will I feel? What experiences are in store for me? Give me what you’ve got and I will be grateful for whatever.

Just finished a 3 day silent women’s meditation retreat @spirit_rock with nearly 100 women! Can you imagine that many women not being able to speak to one another?! 😂There is something really so special about being silent for a few days and not being connected to technology. What a beautiful experience with so many great insights. Feeling refreshed and renewed! Thank you @stefanotti and @ttreis3 for this incredibly thoughtful and meaningful birthday gift and to the teachers and staff for their service. ❤️💕 #vipassana#nocellphone#silentretreat#meditation
Doux souvenirs 💫
.
.
Douce nuit à vous 😘
The beautiful Lokananda Retreat Centre at Point Pass. I'll miss the gardens, great food and my silent friends.
Thanks to Mal Huxter for leading us through this silent meditation retreat and Monique @synergyyogapilates for always smiling, teaching us yoga and meditation despite having a difficult family situation in the background.
I am a bit of a retreat junkie, this being the 3rd retreat in the past 6 months (and many of the past 11 years since my first solo adventure to Broome). We all need to unplug and recharge, reflect and restore from time to time. From this retreat, I was surprised at how much inner peace I could tap into after 4 days of silence and meditation.
I look forward to coming back here one day🌲
Starting today, I'm off to a 10-day Vipassana silent meditation retreat. I'll be spending 10 days in noble silence, meditating for about 10 hours per day. No phone, no talking, no books, no music, no contact with the outside world whatsoever. 🤐 It'll be me, myself, and my mind for the next 10 days. My intention is to complete the course no matter how painful it may feel. Wish me luck and a lot of patience! See you on the other side! 🙂 (I'll try to share some bits on my Insta stories today until I have to hand in my phone)

The fleeting nature of experience. The deluded but trainable mind. The fluid nature of the Self. The interconnectedness of all things. The power of compassion…
.

Practice sitting and walking meditation. Review Foundational Buddhist frameworks, such as the Four Noble Truths (or, Why things are the way they are and what to do about it), the Three Marks of Existence (or, The seeds of human drama), the Three Poisons (or, The trouble with being a biological organism), and the real nature of Karma (or, Reactive patterns and how to dissolve them). The Labyrinth: "The labyrinth is a walking meditation, a path of prayer and an archetypal blueprint where psyche meets Spirit. It has only one path that leads from the outer edge in a circuitous way to the center. There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. Unlike a maze where you lose your way, the labyrinth is a spiritual tool that can help you find your way." Our silent meditation retreat schedule went something like this:
6am Wake up, yoga practice (led), meditation (guided)
7:45-9am Breakfast
9-10:30am meditation lecture
11-12:30pm sit (30mins)/walk (30mins)/ sit (30mins) meditation
12:30-2:30pm lunch
2:30-4pm sit/walk/sit meditation
4:30-6pm sit/walk/sit meditation
7-8:30pm Dharma talk
8:30-9pm Guided meditation
I really enjoyed the walking meditations. We were blessed with beautiful summer weather (in Autumn) and walking the labyrinth was a wonderful way to contemplate whatever questions you wished to bring to it.
Let me know if there is a public labyrinth in Adelaide 🙏

Photo taken exactly one year ago by 📷 @amsaiz13 in our beloved Encinitas, CA... remembering the importance to remain fully open to life, even in times of turbulence; for it is in openness that there is forgiveness, acceptance, bliss...Sending love to all and wishes for a peaceful and blissful lifetime 💙💙💙 #heartwideopen
I had the opportunity to spend 4 days in silence last week, on a meditation retreat (thanks to Mal Huxter for his teachings and Monique @synergyyogapilates for hosting). We were really in the "middle of nowhere" in a very small town called Point Pass. In silence, you discover an appreciation for nature and history, and there was a lot of history in this little town of 26 houses. Originally settled by Germans with their "100 acre" allotments who brought their farming and wine making skills to the Clare Valley region.
Certainly a beautiful and peaceful place to contemplate life
Our final 'Silent Stillness Retreat' for the season here in the jungle has come to an end. But sweet silent stillness is always on offer at Khaama Kethna and the serenity of the jungle is the perfect place to escape the world and truly unwind. We are open all year and offer great deals for during monsoon. We will look forward to helping more people find their sweet silent stillness next season.

I'll be leaving to Delaware to my first 10 Day vipassana, which is a silent retreat. No distractions, just 10 days of silent meditation. No expectation I say but we will see. Sounds pretty hardcore for me but after the last ungrounded weeks I have had, I actually am looking forward to it. I will be going black soon but when I reemerge I'd like to share about my experience. See you on the other side!
