Real talk. It’s been a hard week mentally of Realization. Reflection. And letting go. I had to pull back and let myself feel and then let myself heal.  Tonight I got the gym for a hardcore Back / Shoulders workout focusing on heavy and overloading. Destroyed so many PRs I lost count. I am the strongest. Fastest. Biggest. Unwinding Neck and Shoulder Tension 
One common movement mistake we make ALL the time as humans is thinking we are moving one part when actually we are moving another. We raise a shoulder to move an arm in some way long enough, and all of a sudden the neck, shoulder and everything that hangs off of that are all glued together 🙄

And then, pain. Or not, depending on how much you listen to your body. But it’s oh so easy to see when it’s happening to someone. It looks like they’re wearing their shoulders like earrings, and you think “that can’t feel good”. This series on the Gyrotoner is one of my all time favorites. You basically explore PNF spirals in every way possible: palms up, palms down, facing the top arm, facing the bottom arm, facing away from the top/bottom arm, and you can even play with torso rotation, depending on how long you want to spend geeking out on all the possible minutae. 
The Gyrotoner is an intimidating beast for the same reason that it’s exhilarating. You can adjust nearly everything on it! For example, the “arms” I’m holding on to can be lengthened,the width of the V can be adjusted,  the handles can be rotated by 1/4 turns, and the central pivot point can rotate in a full circle as well as raised or lowered. So no matter what your range, you can work it. 
Strength within range of motion is crucial for stable movement, and building strength is so much easier with feedback. 
Because the tension ALSO can be adjusted, you can find the level of resistance that challenges as well as supports, and work that sweet spot until you change it once again! 
Move differently. 
Move often.

The Why:
This press variation is very challenging to whole body strength and stability and accommodates for those who have more limited shoulder mobility / range of motion. .

The What:
The press portion emphasizes the front of the shoulder (anterior deltoid), the upper part of the chest (clavicular portion of pectoralis major) and the back of your arm (triceps). The body position challenges the entire core as well as the hips and legs. .

The How:
(a) Set up a Barbell in a land mine anchor. .
(b) In a squat position, lift the bar up to chest height using your legs, shifting the bar to one shoulder.
(c) Take a split stance, Stepping one foot back on the toes, putting about 60-70% of your weight on the front leg. .
(d) With the bar in front of the shoulder and the arm tucked close to the ribs, press straight through the elbow forward until your arm is fully straight, making sure the shoulder stays down and away from your jawline. .
(e) Maintain braced core and leg position the entire set..
