22. “What things have you learned from being chronically ill?” SO MANY THINGS. Here are somethings I’ve learned: -Doctors do not know everything. “What do you call the person who graduated last in their class in medical school? A doctor.” -A lot of times patients with less familiar conditions have to figure out the problem first, just to get to the doctor that actually knows about the suspected condition. -Generally, people have NO clue what it’s like to be chronically ill -I have more compassion and empathy -I’ve had to learn to deal with Ableism -A lot about myself and my body in particular, such as a reason for a lot of symptoms. -There are so many conditions and illnesses out there that I had no idea even existed -Learned a lot about medical stuff 😂 which I actually had no interest in before -Most places are not actually wheelchair accessible -People will try to “cure” your illness, that they know nothing about, with the most ridiculous things that you have ever heard of -People do not understand what “Chronic” means -But, above all, you should listen to your body *It’s not good to sit this way [Image Description: 1. College of Mahala in black shorts and a black bralette, against a black background demonstrating W sitting in one photo and sitting on her feet in the other photo.] ***Important Note: The photos I will be including in this series are from a few months back. I took these photos to document my Hypermobility, so I no longer have to demonstrate it causing more damage to my joints over time. We all present differently and there are definitely people with EDS that are even much more flexible than I am, but I’m hoping these images will help to raise awareness. Do NOT preform party tricks for fun as they further weaken the joints. Everyone else, don’t try these at home or end up hurting yourselves. *** #ehlersdanlossyndrome#eds#heds#edsawareness#hypermobility#connectivetissuedisorder#zebrastrong#chronicillness#chronicallyill#thisismyEDS#invisibleillness#disabledandcute#invisibledisability#flexability#chronicpain#shorts#bodypositivity#photography#fighter#fragilebutunbreakable#awareness#happiness#potsie#strength
