Day 7... I’m going back to my 8-9 year old self. Sean Cassidy and Donny & Marie albums were “I-T”, It. Sean Cassidy was my Justin Bieber and I watched the Donny & Marie TV Show without fail every week... and I’m now just remembering that they had a synchronized ice skating segment on every show! Go figure (skate!). Loved watching Sonny & Cher’s show and thought it was so cool when they brought out their daughter, Chastity, at the end of just about every show... And how about Tony Orlando & Dawn?? Remember Variety Shows? So great. So, the reason those 2 albums made it to my musical world was because every Easter my Mom would give us a basket of candy and a record album, and those 2 albums were Easter presents from her. Not sure how record albums and Easter were connected for her, but I’ll go with the possibility that she was inspired by “Godspell” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” and music and church. And if artificially yellow-colored marshmallow Peeps were part of Easter, why not record albums??? Like mother, like daughter, I (and some other Moms - you know who you are) tried to introduce our kids to a different genre of music in the year 2014-ish and took them to a sing-a-long version of “Godspell” at St. John’s Lutheran Church... on Christopher St., NYC. Well, it didn’t go over very well with the younger crowd and there’s no amount of repenting for the chaos our boys caused during the movie. However, there was redemption when the credits rolled and it was revealed to me that “Jesus Christ” lives in my building!! Yes, the actor Victor Garber, who played JC in the movie, lives in my building. He and I had a good laugh in the elevator one day when I shared my “revelation” with him. He’s long-ago shed his JC suspenders and Superman t-shirt and has a tremendously successful stage & screen career. Just marveling at the tapestry of life. #shauncassidy#donnyandmarie#easter#easterbasket#donnyandmarieshow#synchronizedskating#sonnyandcher#chastity#tonyorlandoanddawn#godspell#jesuschristsuperstar#jesuschryslersupercar#stjohnslutheranchurch#christopherstreet#nyc#happymothersday#TandemNYC#likemotherlikedaughter
This morning, my Lyft driver was playing Shaun Cassidy's Da Doo Ron Ron (his tip immediately went ⬆️), and I was transported to when I was 5 and obsessively borrowed this record from the Eugene Public Library and played it on repeat. #firstcrush#lyft#publiclibrary#shauncassidy
"Ziggy was my nickname in high school. Why? Because of Ziggy Stardust. I was such a fan of that record that I wore it down to scrap.
I saw Bowie in concert at least a dozen times. The DIAMOND DOGS Tour was my favourite. We met at a party in L.A. and I was so impressed at how approachable Bowie was. He was kind to me, when he had zero reason to be."
I must admit I was shocked to hear that Shaun was a BOWIE fan, due to the fact that I'd always thought his music to be very pop- mainstream. But it's cool to know just as well...
PHOTO of Bowie with Cassidy on the left (and I'm not sure who is on the RIGHT) 1974, at the L.A. party....last post for me
Have a good FRIDAY! ★
I am completely fangirl-ing (is that a word?) right now. I follow Shaun Cassidy on Twitter. When I was little I LOVED him. Still do. He's very funny on Twitter and I really enjoy reading his tweets. Anyway, I saw one of his tweets which made me wonder exactly what the date was when my wonderful mom took me to my first concert, which happened to be Shaun Cassidy, at age 7. Thinking about that now cracks me up!!! My mom at a pop concert. I googled "Shaun Cassidy" and "Rupp Arena" and believe it or not it pulled a graphic of who came to Rupp Arena in 1978. Turns out Shaun Cassidy's concert was 40 years ago TODAY! So I gave him a little shout out since it was our anniversary😂Those of you old enough to appreciate this -- OMG SHAUN CASSIDY LIKED MY TWEET!!!! Now that I have shared my first concert, what was your first concert?!?! #shauncassidy#dadooronron#firstcrush#firstconcert
