Single Parent Discrimination ... 😬
I’ve spent quite a few days going deep into the idea of discrimination against single parents when it comes to renting properties. I know it’s a big word and it’s a heavy sentence with a myriad of emotional justifications, excuses, denials and plain #IGotNoIdea responses from those that handle the rental market 🤭
From my experience it took a long time to get a rental on my own as a single mum of two and I was up against why they call ‘family applicants’ which is the nuclear family of mum and dad and kids. #FrustratingTimes
I’m interested to get opinions on this from you, my followers about your opinions or experiences. Do you think this exists or is it a misused term and why?
Thank you to @mamamiaaus for the opportunity to showcase @shareabode and my single parenting journey so far #MakingSomeWaves
Each bit of exposure goes a long way to creating awareness, getting sign ups which build the database which give me a chance to match single parents for house sharing. And this is starting to happen #Celebrations

Is humanity unified today? Do we work together towards our common good? Have the ‘National Governments’ of each country ever come together and declared in one voice and heart, ‘It’s time that we stopped fighting amongst ourselves and started to truly work together, for the good of all people throughout the world’. No. No. And No again.
What happens when we unite towards our common good? How would the world change?
How about uniting as single parents to solve a common theme of homelessness and poverty? There are over 961 thousand one parent families in Australia #MassiveNumbers
So you may well be asking at this point, ‘If the Government and current resources can’t fix the problems, how can I possibly make a difference with ShareAbode’? First of all – UNITY is absolutely essential and I am creating exposure so those which can help and those which are single parents can start working together towards this collective good #TogetherWeAchieveMore
Secondly there must be passionate leadership and as a single mum I’ve been there and done that and I am dedicated to this idea. So here’s how you can make a difference. Support this idea. Talk to others about supporting this idea. Share this post with them. Supporting an idea doesn’t cost anything. But it’s from supporting an idea – like choosing to fly to the moon – that the idea starts to gather the necessary momentum and power to become a reality! #YouHaveThePower
When each of us contributes our support, the combined strength that we generate grows, and ‘by that very action’, takes us one step closer towards the unity that we need to change our single parent community for the better.
Remember – Ideas are not just ideas. They are the seeds of action that change the world! #MakersGonnaShare
Have you seen the Sunday Telegraph today? If so check out page 34 for an article about ShareAbode and how it was founded my me. It’s our first news printed article and j am thrilled for the opportunity #veryblessedverygrateful
Here’s hoping this article helps bring more awareness to the housing challenges faces by single parents in Australia #makingachangeforthebetter
Social media was on my list of seconds for the last 3 days because family came first. I packed up the car and drove 4 hours to see my children’s half sisters (I still consider these girls my step daughters) and having not seen them since Dustin’s 3rd birthday it was such a wonderful reunion and last few days #mykidsmeantheworldtome
Tomorrow we head back home and to reality much to the sadness of the goodbyes this afternoon.
Why am I posting this, aside from the being absent of posting and coming back and saying hellooooo .. Well, this weekend is the perfect example of untraditional family and the reality that you CAN choose your family and those in your life. I didn’t have to choose to remain in contact with my children’s half sisters but I did and always will because I WANT them in my life and my children’s lives #blendedfamilylove
Do you have a unique family unit? Do you believe that you can actually choose your ‘family’? I’d love to hear others opinions on this
My heart feels lighter, my soul seems brighter and I can’t hide the smile from my face when I see photos like this. It’s just all about love. It’s my mum with my little boy and girl and these three have made my life equally much more challenging and beautiful. #singlemumhappymum
When I first became a single mum I lost a relationship and a dream which had kept me going, no matter how hard it got I always held onto the dream. I see now it wasn’t the dream I was supposed to have and that’s OK as I have come to terms with it. Through the hard times and tough emotions of the first single parent stages I found when I reached out support and unconditional love and acceptance without question from my mum. My mum and I were not on the best terms prior to this, a not estranged and damaged by one another but this journey I chose to take has reconnected us and to be honest I don’t know what I would do without her #greatfulforeverything
There is always a silver lining of you look hard enough and my silver lining is having my mum in my life and my children’s lives and their faces when they see her light up my heart and I am so grateful for this for them. #singlemumsupport
With her support I continue to be strong for myself and for my children, if you haven’t got a support network, find just one / one person who has your back and your kids adore will change his single parent journey around for you. Don’t know where or how to find this, DM me and together we can find ways to create this for you and your little family #mumsupportmums
