This academic hood has to be the most unusual item I’ve mended. A friend had been invited back to speak at Cambridge university. His hood had been stored in the attic for more than 20 years so was slightly moth eaten, very crumpled and the fur had moulted and started to disintegrate. It took a lot of TLC to get it looking presentable but I managed to darn, patch and clean it up in time for his visit.
Swipe to see the before state and when worn at Cambridge.
I love reading magazines, especially sewing ones. I avoided temptation to read @thepatternpages and @sewinglife_magazine straight away but saved them to read on my flight to the UK. Sewing Life Magazine is a pilot issue by Danish designer @mariadenmarksewing and I like what I’ve seen so far. A treat to be able to read them cover to cover with a cup of coffee uninterrupted. Bliss! ✈️📖☕️✂️
HELP!! Lovely IG sewists I need your help. I’m going to a party in the Alps next weekend. I want to make a stylish but warm top to wear during the day. I treated myself to some lovely (expensive!) fabric and thought I had the Maker’s Atelier Big Easy Top pattern but I haven’t. No problem I thought I’ll just buy the PDF from their site but, horror of horrors, they don’t sell PDF patterns. 😱. So now I’m stuck. I don’t have a similar pattern in my stash and because the fabric is expensive, don’t want to risk trying to make up my own version without a pattern. I’d much rather use a pattern or at least follow someone’s tried and tested hack of a pattern. So can you help and suggest a similar pattern?
P.S. It’s the cream version in the photo, and I’m on a RTW fast so buying a top is not an option.
Progress on my Hattie dress. The toile is done but it is very tight. Having not used a Style Arc pattern before and because they sell the sizes individually I made sure I bought the size that matched my measurements. I’ve rechecked my measurements and the pdf printing to see if I’ve made an error but all are OK. Admittedly the toile is in a cotton sheeting without much give but I’m a bit disappointed. Luckily they have sent the next size up but I have to print, cut and paste again which is a bit of a pain. I’m also going to increase the seam allowances from 1cm to 1.5cm to give myself a bit to play with. Fingers crossed it will be OK this time. At least it has pockets...
I like the newly released Hattie Woven Dress pattern from Style Arc but I’ve not used these patterns before. I don’t suppose anyone has sewn this pattern yet, but I would be interested to hear what Style Arc patterns are like to use. The 3rd photo is the fabric I intend to use, I don’t want a too fussy style. Any other pattern suggestions welcome. 😊 Stupidity, I didn’t listen to my gut and only bought 2 metres on the advice of the assistant. 🙄
My Farrow dress is finished. I love it : it is comfy to wear yet it has a classic elegant look that I really appreciate . Photos by my 8 years old boy !
Fabric: I used a crepe from @littlefabrics.
Pattern : @grainlinestudio : I love her patterns so much and I found myself referring to her sew along for a more detailed step by step guide while sewing. #farrowdress#sewing#couture#faitmain#sewinginfrance
Friday is fabric day! Last week @agnesb_officiel had a fabric sale in Marseille. Too far for me to go so my lovely friend @sewbettyblue popped in and we went fabric shopping via video call. It was great fun and this is the result.
1. Fine pale grey twill
2. Cream fine knit
3. Pleated blue and white striped jersey
4. Purple pique jersey
5. Forget-me-not print linen
6. Embroidered spot silk dupion
7. Printed silk satin
All for 5€/metre. 😍She also included two vintage patterns with my fabric parcel. I’m a very happy bunny. 💃🏼
A bit late to the party but better later than never...😊
I’ve decided to join in #2018MakeNine as a way focusing my sewing this year, especially as I’m taking part in the #2018rtwfast .
1. #blackwoodcardigan - I wear cardigans a lot and love this long version. I have some purple knit (colour of 2018 😁) for this.
2. #valleyblouse - this has been on my list for ages.
3. #lindensweatshirt I’m hoping this will become a good wardrobe basic.
4. A jumpsuit - I have a dressy RTW version but would like a more casual one like this possibly using the #jennajumpsuit pattern by @cottonandchalk.
5. Simplicity K8176 or similar - as I need more summer skirts.
6. I need an easy throw-on coat and love this one. Perhaps the @grainlinestudio new #yatescoat pattern. (image: Pinterest/nettenestea.com)
7. Embroidery - I want to improve my skills and fell in love with this embroidered #ogdencami by @sewyorkcity.
8. I picked up my needles again last year and now want to make this shawl #findyourfadeshawl .
9. Finally I’ve wanted to try EPP for ages and have been inspired by the quilts of @henhousehomemade so maybe 2018 is the year...
I’ve signed up! I have a wardrobe (and more) full of clothes so this will force me to either wear it, refashion or give it away. I also have a large stash of fabrics so hopefully I can reduce this too. It will help me make garments I need rather than those I like the look of and only wear once. 🙄Plus you can still buy shoes. 👠 😀#2018rtwfast#newyearsresolution#sewyourownclothes#ilovesewing#sewinginfrance
Unfortunately my UK trip was cut short as my vertigo returned 😔 but luckily l did managed a visit to @sewisfaction. I was so excited to see the shop and meet the lovely Sheona in real life. She was so friendly and helpful. I could have bought so much more.
Purple knit = Blackwood cardigan
Quilted jersey = Linden sweatshirt
Abstract ponti = t-shirt
Matt gold sequin = Christmas skirt
Well that’s the plan......😊
#couture#coudre#weekenddecouture#diy#faitmain#naaieninFrankrijk#sewinginFrance 😁
Couldn’t resist this piece of Liberty wool/cotton print. My local village held it’s first Vide Atelier Creative today. I was surprised how many stalls there were for such a small village. People came from far and wide so hopefully there will be another one so I can sell some of my stash. I thought I was very restrained considering how much was there. 😊 The third pic is my lovely friend Tina @cadeaux_insolites who was doing a roaring trade. Loved listening to her trying to describe scuba fabric to a group of French women. I think the diving comment confused them a bit. 😂
