Torre del Oro or the "Tower of Gold" was built in the 13th century by the Almohad Caliphate. It serves a strategic purpose of controlling access to the Guadalquivir river - one of the five major rivers in the Iberian peninsula. It's name comes from the Golden dome and the shine it projected on the river, due to being built with a unique mixture of mortar, lime and pressed hay). Despite several threats to its existence after the Muslim rule in Andalusia, the tower survived due to the perseverance and reverence the people of Seville hold for it. 🕌

My first time kayaking in a while and it was quite the adventure. It was very fun but I forgot how exhausting it could be, and we were lagging behind in the group so the instructors came around with their motorboat and pulled us and a fish somehow jumped into the kayak which was quite the thrill and something I’d hope to avoid in the future. It made me realise how little time I’ve spent at the river and I absolutely need to spend more time taking it in. Taken 4/25/2018.
