Learning about REST
Here we are making our own eye pillows to use in savasana. A sensory experience that provides us with an opportunity to chat naturally together about why we do SAVASANA at the end of each and every class. Because we can ask kids to lie down and rest. Or we can empower them with tools AND nurture their inner wisdom so that they FEEL self care and rest are valuable. Children constantly absorb information from the world around them. So when they live in a society that does not value rest we need to do LOTS of work towards countering the notion that rest is not productive. How? Through lots and lots of modelling and simply through authentically valuing rest ourselves! Tell the children you find it hard to rest but that you know it is important so you continue to commit to the practice - if that is what is true for you. Making eye pillows was a very enjoyable and satisfyingly simple experience - but while we were crushing lavender we talked about the way herbs and oils can help us feel calm. We talked about the way closing our eyes can be nice (or even scary). The sound of the rice pouring was relaxing. Our senses connect us. When we rest our bodies heal. So much simple yet rich wisdom being transferred and all of it helps us to understand and explore rest a little better. And therefore value it as a human necessity.
Another great night with my love. I highly recommend to catch their show. At first, I thought it would be a traditional drum performance. They were able to incorporate both modern and tradional aspects visually in their performance. They were also able to inject humor too and gets the crowd involved. There were times that I drifted off and try to picture an attack scene of an Anime in my head. Hahaha.
