I've had most of @BallastPointBrewing's #Sculpin series. There's Grapefruit Sculpin, Habanero Sculpin, Pineapple Sculpin, Passion Fruit Sculpin, Coffee Sculpin, Unfiltered Sculpin, Sculpin with Mosaic Hops...and, of course -- the original Sculpin. (God, I feel like Bubba from Forrest Gump right now...) But I can honestly say that Aloha Sculpin -- brewed hazy and juicy with Brux Trois yeast -- is the best Sculpin to date. I'm in love. And naturally, I'm drinking it while listening to Elvis' "Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite," arguably the best live album The King ever recorded (and the only one from the island). Elvis may be a southern boy, and the beer may be SoCal, but I can feel the Aloha vibes all over.

#BallastPoint Grapefruit Sculpin IPA. alk. 7 til-%. Näin perus Sculpinia maistelleena, oli mukava huomata tämän tulleen Alkon tämän kuukauden erikoisuuksiin. Erittäin kirkkaan oranssi olut muodostaa valkean ja hyvin vähäisen vaahdon. Tuoksu on odotusten mukaisesti erittäin greippinen, sitruksinen ja Amerikan humaloiden tyyppillisen havuinen.
Runko on suht kevyt, mutta humalan tuoman katkeruuden ansiosta myös hieman terävä ja hiilihappojakin löytyy. Mausta löytyy myös täyteläisen paljon mehumaista greippiä, havuja, appelsiinia, limeä ja humalan rikkautta. Jälkimaku jatkuu pitkään kuivana ja katkeroisena. 🌲🍊 #DeRanke Saison de Dottignies. Väriltään kauniin keskioranssinen. Vaahto pysyvä, kaataessa parin sentin korkuinen. Tuoksu on raikas, sitruksinen, vaalean maltainen, humalainen. Olut on yllättävän täyteläinen, 5,5 -alkoholiprosentin takia myös helposti juotava. Ensin maistellessa tunsin suussa mukavan hiilihappoisuuden, maussa huomasin sitruksisuuden, sitten happamuutta, humalan ja sen tuomat katkerot, makeuden ja hiivaisuuden vaalealla mallasrungolla. After a bit of a hiatus from social media, I am back! My posting from here on out won’t be too frequent but I will at least be active again! 👍🏼

So to start off my return, I figured why not review a beer that is a bit new territory for me, yet one almost any craft beer snob knows. I figured there would be no better choice than Ballast Point’s Grapefruit Sculpin IPA!

This beer pours with a damn near perfect head and immediate you pick up on the hops and grapefruit in the aroma. The hops and grapefruit are damn near balanced perfectly in regards to the aroma and flavor. The finish is a bit dry which is expected from an ipa, but is still very drinkable. Despite the ABV being on the higher side, this is a very drinkable beer. If you’re an IPA lover and haven’t had this beer, go get it ASAP. Highly recommend it to anyone.
