Prince has always held a special place in my 💜 but when we lost him on 4/21/16 it was jarring that I was in surgery that day. Texts about the news were some of the first things I saw when I came to. He had just recently played a slew of concerts in the #bayarea and I’d heard that they were some of the most special, intimate shows he had performed...even in a place as looming as #roaracle . Tickets were expensive and I kept putting off seeing him live because I thought I’d have another chance sometime in the future. One of my biggest regrets is not going after something I knew was important to me 🕊 The official music video also just released is hauntingly nostalgic to see him doing what he does best 🕺🏻🎤 For any #audiophiles interested, peep below for more background info on this recording👇

The studio version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” was recorded in July 1984 at Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse, Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The track was written, arranged, performed and produced by Prince, with saxophone by Eric Leeds and backing vocals by @susannahmelvoin and Paul Peterson. The recording was engineered by Susan Rogers. The track was originally released by Prince protégés and Paisley Park Records artist, The Family, on their eponymous 1985 album (which has been out of print for over 20 years). The 1990 version by Sinéad O'Connor reached #1 in over 20 countries and Platinum status in 5 🎼
Grateful Dead - Fillmore West, February 27th 1969. The first of my Record Store Day purchases, and for me it's the kind of thing RSD was created for. The first of their 4 night run at the Fillmore West in its entirety. I think the following 3 nights are going to be released over the next few RSDs. It's beautifully pressed 4 record boxed set, with a lovely etching on side 8. Best of all though was the price. Unlike most of the Grateful Dead's RSD releases this had an almost sensible price. #vinyl#records#vinylcommunity#gratefuldead#fillmorewest#livedead#boxedset#rsd#recordstoreday#etched#rhinorecords#skull
Digging through boxes I rediscovered this wonderful limited edition Loudon Wainwright collection from Rhino Handmade that I got the man himself to sign at a show years ago! #LoudonWainwrightIII#RhinoRecords#Music
572. Wilco - Live at the Troubadour: 11/12/96 (1996; reissued 2018)

Day 572 of @ughwax
The first official release of their November 12th, 1996 performance at Los Angeles iconic Troubadour, previously held in common consensus as one of Wilco’s shortlist essential live recordings circulating among fans.
Live At The Troubadour 11/12/96 on its own is a 2 LP set released yesterday for record store day. Rhino/Reprise pressed 5000 copies in the US, 8500 worldwide, marking the first time it’ll be available on vinyl (and as a self-contained set on any format).
Not too long after this was recorded my pal @johndemartino made me a mixtape that featured “Forget the Flowers” which turned me into a fan. I should send him a copy of this live show... selfishly probably will keep it for myself!
My Wilco fandom has admittedly faltered over the years but this is a good reminder of how much I liked them and how truly great they are/were live.
Kudos to @amoebahollywood in Los Angeles for their organized approach to #rsd2018#recordstoreday

"Don't miss this amazing chance to hold all 29 of The Rolling Stones GREAT HITS in this gigantic 2 ALBUM COLLECTION. These records are not sold in stores, they're available only by mail for the incredibly low price of just $7.98. Also in 8-track or cassette. Don't miss out, order your's now"
I didn't buy this double album by mail in 1977, but I'm sure somebody did. Based on the sticker in the top right corner, someone must have later bought it from Rhino Records in 1981 for $3.77. Maybe it was the same guy who sold it to me at a garage sale for $6. In any case, I still got a better deal than the TV commercial's $7.98. Although it's missing a few key songs of the era, it's still a nice compilation overall, and holds its place in my collection as my first Rolling Stones album
