"The first time I considered being a scientist was when I was seven years old. I was obsessed with dinosaurs, and I begged my parents to take me to see Jurassic Park. When I saw that scientists could make dinosaurs (even if it was science fiction), I remember thinking that this was the coolest thing ever. Then when I was in high school I remember learning about Dolly the sheep, the first cloned animal, and thinking, scientists are getting closer to making dinosaurs!" 🦖👩🔬 .
Meet the brilliant, dinosaur-loving, Antarctica-exploring, artist and neuroscientist Rachelle Balez @chelleabell from Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute in our latest Interviews with Scientists!
Faecal Sludge (FS) characterization and experimentation is an emerging area in the field of sanitation. Laboratories equipped with facilities for FS analyses have entered into a partnership with the goal of standardizing methods of FS characterization and delivering training courses for both students and sanitation professionals.
The new FS laboratory of IHE Delft will be built either at the nearby wastewater treatment plant Harnaschpolder, or at IHE Delft’s premises. It will be used for basic and advanced training so that trainees can improve their skills and embark on practical FS work with increased confidence.
In addition, it will serve FS researchers at the newly established centre of excellence ‘Delft Blue Innovation’, which has its research facilities nearby and was established in cooperation with IHE Delft.
Location: The Netherlands, India, South Africa, Thailand, Zurich | Partners: BMGF (USA), Eawag (Switzerland), UKZN (South Africa), CSE (India), AIT (Thailand), Delfluent Services BV, Delft Blue Innovations (The Netherlands)
Every week, we will publish an IHE Delft #WaterInnovation on Tuesday. We have published a booklet with IHE Delft's innovations, have a browse through the others here: http://ow.ly/KRqO30jtlAJ
If you would like your Instagram photo to be featured as a @IHEdelft regram, make sure to add #IHEdelft to your post. We’re looking forward to your impressions!
Gotta give it up to my little girl, 9 and going on and on.
Two years ago while working on a mathematical pattern that grew into a flower, she insisted that I explain to her the mathematical proofs behind it.
Now, for a states of matter experiment, she didn't want to make slime, she's a pro already, nor drop mints into colas.
So she looked and looked and has decided to make elephant toothpaste. But like always, it wasn't enough for her.
She had to know the chemistry and the chemical nomenclature behind it all.
yeast + h2o = biotic reaction = y
h2o2 + y = h2 + h2o + heat
#begrateful#search#phd#research#documentation#paper#oldthings#files#dossiers#louisclaudevassé I'm grateful to the old man who let me take his documentation about the sculptor I'm studying. When I met him yesterday, he says that I won't find anything new in it. Sur ! I won't, I Knew that since the beginning. It's gonna complete my catalogue that's all. Still it's a nice thought and trusting someone to give all this, it's nice ! I'm still need to look into it seriously. It's gonna take me some time !

Notes from the 8th of Jan 2018:
Current state of play here in mysore, my "last" asana that I practice to with Sharathji currently. Dwe Pada Sirasana. Two (Dwe) feet/ legs (pada) behind the head (sirsa). .
Working on getting the second foot lower and my head back further. Good for the ego this posture, as the legs can symbolise the ego being cut off (head/ego being cut by the leg/ sword). I could make excuses like "my legs are too long" but ultimately I know it will just take time and deep research in all areas of my practice to unlock this asana.
Last week in conversation with Sharathji, I said "maybe next life?" and he laughed at me and said "no definitely this life, one or two months".
💥 After one/ two months of digging deeper with this asana I learnt so much about both Eka and Dwe Pada. Still have SO much to improve on but I was also good to have some other "homework" (new asana) to work over the coming months too.
Super grateful for my friend @ksenia_zhorova sharing with me new ways to approach this asana too. Thank you wonderful lady/yogi 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Life is not coming in an expected ways...doors are open for us to explore...live the life as if it is going to be 100 years more..but never forget to appreciate every single minutes if not second as if there is no more tomorrow...what lies upon us is not what we can decide... it is what we are going to do with it matters... ps: it might not the path that I ever imagine will be doing..but the path that I enjoy and will try to make the most used of it.... lotsa things to learn. Wish me luck 😉😁😊 #stilladoctor#surgeon#doc#research#makelifearide#work#ethic#medical#life#man#path#loveyou#always

Man AHL’s first ever Hackathon took place this past weekend (21-22 April), welcoming students and professionals to our London office to improve the Python Data Science ecosystem together. Over 24 hours, 90 people worked in teams to fix bugs, write documentation and implement new, exciting features – all results were pushed to their open-source repositories and dozens of pull requests were generated.
During the hackathon, a team from Man AHL worked with the participants as they made their own contributions, as part of a group on a well-known project or using their own open-source code.
Everyone enjoyed 24 hours of fun and code, exploring and improving the Python platform they use every day!

Here we go! We are spending the day in Scarborough on research😁 The Rowntree's company was a pioneer of it's day for the treatment of it's staff. As well as free dental care and a employing a factory nurse, Rowntree's opened Dunollie Rest House in Scarborough. The house was a place of convalescence for ill or grieving employee's, to allow them time and fresh sea air to recover #rowntrees#research#theatre#Scarborough
To będzie pracowity czas 📖🎓 #phd#conference#konferencjanaukowa#doktorat#research#badania#study#studygram
