So several months ago, I posted a picture of these dolls in need of clothing. They needed a little fixing up, which I could do, before they could go to little girls in need. But they still needed clothes. A sweet friend offered to make them clothes and she's doing a phenomenal job! Our charity-The Angel Hands Project- is a local charity in Kansas City that helps to provide Christmas presents to underprivileged children who would otherwise get nothing. We've been able to work with other organizations to provide for homeless children and, more recently, refugee families. This last year, we gave presents to over 1,000 people. We have so many helpers, like this one, who contribute to this cause. Ask me how you can get involved! I can't wait for some little girls to get these! #AngelHandsProject#kansascity#missouri#charity#refugees#payitforward#helpingothers#theleastofthese#dountoothers
It appears that Fresno State University’s English Professor Randa Jarrar wasn’t the only one to think Barbara Bush was Racist. So, Fresno State’s President @josephlcastro should be defending her instead of caving to CONservative donors/critics. The Fresno Bee newspaper should also!
Bush showcased her apparent indifference to the plight of Black women’s quest for legitimacy in the eyes of White America came when she expressed doubt, to put it mildly, over claims that Clarence Thomas had sexually harassed Anita Hill. She appeared to victim-shame Hill calling her a liar while defending Thomas... “Is this woman telling the truth?” Bush wrote. “I do not mean to sit in judgment, but I will never believe that she, a Yale Law School graduate, a woman of the 80s, would put up with harassment for one moment...”
Her seemingly racist comment on resettlement of Hurricane Katrina refugees (mostly poor and black) to the Astrodome...“And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them.”. She was also insensitive (In support of Her son George W call to invade Iraq.) to the common folks, when she said...“Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? It’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?”. She was indifferent towards feminists, as shown by her attack on Anita Hill and of Geraldine Ferarro, who she called a “witch”. Her CONservative supporters are trying to whitewash her racist and sexist history, by saying she was rich and privileged, which made her an out-of-touch white elitist, but not an”racist. Whatever it is, she was definitely not kindhearted towards the minorities and the common folks.

Last night, Ahmed Beetar, one of our co-founders, spoke on a panel about migrants’ families after a performance of Paper Dolls at the Mosaic Theater. He spoke about how people like him form new families when their biological families live far away, and how important it is for newcomers to have opportunities to meet new people. He also explained why he is passionate about the work of @kama.dc and why he works to showcase migrants’ skills to show what they bring to their new communities. #migrants#migrantstories#sharingskills#community#refugees#empowerment#culture#exchange#washingtondc
ASYLUM: More Nigerians with valid US visas cross into Quebec
Canada’s government has said more Nigerians with valid US visas are crossing into the country illegally with most of them heading for the province of Quebec.
Canada says these asylum-seekers are using the United States as a transit point.
The government has pledged to help the province of Quebec cope with a growing influx of asylum seekers crossing from the United States, as the province is reaching “saturation point.” The Canadian government has hinted that it is now in touch with the US over the crossings.
The federal government said this week it will review a breakdown of costs Quebec has incurred as thousands of refugee claimants arrive in need of housing and social support.
Canada also said it will work to divert newcomers away from Montreal, Quebec’s largest city, to regions better equipped to welcome them.

The first 30-40 minutes of this documentary are so difficult to watch. Started previewing it today for a screening of it we may do at my work place, and it left me in a haze. People who become displaced should not always be identified by the chaos and horror they fled. So often the media just shows people at their weakest moments, and that makes me uncomfortable. But at the same time, those of us who have the ability/privilege to watch such horrors through headlines from the other side of the world and become desensitized to them need to be confronted with evil and suffering in a way that shakes us. .
AND, for those of us who want to take up the flag and advocate for people who’ve become displaced by war - we have to be so humble and remember how little we know about suffering. .
I recommend this documentary, but with great heaviness.
Please, share this news! This is a project supported by Tara Brach where they have translated guided mindful meditation audios into arabic! With my heart and mind in refugees. Let them experience the true refuge of mind in the present moment. www.mindfulnessinarabic.org

Wasfi wants to make the most of his time in Jordan, which is why he signed up for our Men's Barbershop course. “I want to develop a new set of skills.
