Here are three exercises to help get your first pull up!

Note: you may not see a band here. Bands are super useful to train the full range of motion in a pull up and get you comfortable with the idea of pulling your full bodyweight up. I use bands alot however I always train the bodyweight strength aspects first. These will moreso build the strength necessary to pull your full bodyweight up over time.

Exercise 1)
The scap raise:
This exercise is necessary for your lats to activate and pull you up. No scap raise = no movement or pulling with your arms only instead of using your back muscles.

Exercise 2)
The Australian row:
Sometimes called the inverted row, this exercise is phenomenal for increasing strength in your back muscles without the full load of your Bodyweight under tension. It can be modified by bending your knees like shown in this video or by sticking out both feet and keeping your legs straight to make it harder.

Exercise 3)
The negative:
This is by far one of the most effective ways to achieve a pull up. You take your back through the eccentric motion of the pull up as slow as possible building up time under tension, thereby strength, endurance and muscle mass, throughout the different phases of your pull.

It's a max push with one arm and a max pull with the other arm.

Things to remember:

Or, keep this story - up to you.

I choose that age doesn't matter to me (again, I only speak of it because it matters to you).
I choose to be improving in Body and Mind all the time - I'm better now than I was 1 year ago, and far better now than I was when I was 23 (20 years ago).
And, I'll be better at 53 - because I say so! 
It's a damn Mindset thing, you see?!
So, what beliefs do you choose for yourself?

Here's another TRUTH (or not - depends whether you believe it or you believe in the opposite!):
You can be super-fit, and you can learn to do whatever Functional Fitness stuff you want to do with your body... if you put your Mind to it - REGARDLESS OF AGE AND WHERE YOU ARE STARTING FROM NOW!!!
Once you accept that - the rest is even easier:
=> Self-image upgrade (Mindset)
=> Allow the body to rid itself of the extra weight (easy stuff)
=> Begin moving/training in a "meaning-full" way (Functional Body Movement)
=> Keep the vision of You 2.0 in your mind's eye all the time (Mind conditioning)

Been a little AWOL this last week. Here's why! For the last 18 months I've been working on a HUGE project during my pockets of free time. 
427 videos (more on the way), and over 3 years worth of bodyweight calisthenics training programs (each 5 weeks long and seamlessly transitioning to the next) later and I'm STILL not done. 
My goal is to help people who've had joint pain keep them from strength training regularly and sustainably make that a thing of the past. My personal story has been one rife with injury, and the way I began to train with calisthenics in 2014 changed my body and helped me recover from my chronic back, neck and shoulder pain. 
I've modeled the programs I've created after the way I trained myself and how we coach all of our in person clients. So they've been tested 100's of times already by over 50 people and they have been proven to consistently provide the same result over and over: increased strength,  mobility, balance, and stamina, all sustainably and without aggravating the joints--in fact the opposite, it helps to heal painful stiff joints.

I really want to share more, but right now is not the time. I just wanted to show this video to let you in on what's coming in the very near future, and at a very affordable price, too.  This isn't any of that foo-foo follow along aerobicize dance workout crap--this was designed only for people who are serious about getting really strong and moving better using nothing but their bodyweight, and are interested in doing so in a manner that is progressive, varied, and sustainable (not to mention  fun and rewarding)

Off to an expo in Germany tomorrow to catch up and party with work colleagues and clients from a past life so the past two days have been a bit mental; no time to get to the gym or workout park and I felt the need for a decent sweat-fest 💦💪 - 3 rounds of this short, sharp and simple home circuit more than hit the spot!

SIDE NOTE: along with paralletes (from @solidathletix of course 😉) an ab roller is probably the best piece of home workout kit you can buy...small, lightweight and so damn effective.

The circuit was as follows ... give it go, and I mention how you can regress each movement too:

- Explosive Push-Ups x 8 (perform whatever level of Push-Up you’re currently at, knees, wall, 1-Arm, just get that push in!)
- Ab-Rolls x 10 (just go as far down as you can so you can come back up, keep the back straight and engage the core by tucking the pelvis forwards and not coming so far back up so as to break the tension between reps)
- Triceps Extensions x 8 (get on your knees and/or use a higher surface to make it easier. Back straight, get that head between the arms and keep the abs tight!)
- Bent-Over Single-Arm Kettlebell Rows x 8 per arm (not in the video -#Google)
- Mountain Climbers into @animalflowofficial Front Kick-Throughs (currently one of my favourite ways to metabolically blast out at the end of a workout - just do mountain climber intervals if you haven’t learnt  Animal Flow yet, or practice Front Kick-Throughs - @andremarquesbc ... may give these a crack next week 😜)

I threw in some parallete work too, but tbh it was just for the hell of it and was too fatigued from the circuit to do it effectively..
