A couple of weeks ago I had the rare opportunity to witness something truly great, truly transformative. I walked into a room on a Thursday afternoon to a silent room filled with music. How? Five young women sat at desks, purple Beats headphones over their ears, heads knocking, hands tapping, and promise all around them. These young women weren’t listening to the latest Spotify release, they were creating, producing their own music.
I was fortunate to have one young producer, age 10, play me the track she was working in Ableton. I told her, ‘this track I has a really cool vibe.’ She confidently responded with, ‘that’s why I called it mad vibes.’ I wanted to laugh, not because it was funny, but because I was struck at her confidence in her work. I had to question if I even had that confidence after 7+ years of professional writing.
I knew at that moment I wanted to be involved with @girlsmakebeats please follow this wonderful foundation that empowers girls by expanding the female presence of DJs, Music Producers, and Audio Engineers.
