A couple times a year, the Texas prison system culls their unwanted horses.
Lameness, blindness, reproductive issues and age are the general reasons.
This boy is 5 years old....and in pain. Yes,he looks healthy. ....pretty.
But he's hurting.
The sale in which they are run through is known for kill buyers and one like this will be one that they will be after. We would absolutely love to help him and bring him home to heal him... If there is any possible way we could get a little help to do that that would be beyond amazing. Rescue doesn't always look like a rescue... But it would save him from a ride to a Kill pen... Or worse.
If you can...help us help this young guy.
Estimated cost... $800
Auction is tonight!!!
I saw my friend @khirstenlechols post about this museum yesterday, and it just so happened that I was also in Montgomery and decided to check it out. At first, I thought that this was something that I’d never heard of, but it was actually a museum that I hid in my subconscious. Why? A couple of reasons: 1) the museum represents a very present reality. 2) enslavement is something that I think of often whether spiritually, emotionally, or mentally. 3) This is a topic that I teach, try to dissect, try to resist but sometimes it doesn’t work. 4) I have friends and ex-boyfriends who are or have been incarcerated and I try to understand how and why. 5) I’ve seen a sibling drastically impacted by the an incarcerated parent. 6) I’ve taught in two of the prisons highlighted in the museum. 7) Teaching and witnessing are heavy burdens 8) There is a complicity that I felt/feel teaching incarcerated people 9) I have book chapter scheduled for release in January that focuses on teaching in prison. I’ve thought long and hard about if I presented the information in an upstanding and unbiased way. 10) I’m currently writing another article on teaching Jesmyn Ward’s The Men We Reaped in a maximum security facility. As if the text was not heavy enough, teaching men who were already reaping parts of their masculinity is even more challenging. 11) Because I learned the hard way that my education does not shield me from the potential danger of incarceration. I once believed the lie that if I went to school and got good grades that I would be safe. That was the furthest thing from the truth.
The weight of the museum is real. It snatches you out of a false reality and thrusts you intentionally into the all too real present truth. Looking at the letters from inmates displayed on the walls, I reflect back to the writings of my students that tell the same narrative of harsh prison conditions, fear of losing one’s life, and despair. I looked at those writings and silently prayed that God would use my voice to bring attention to the ever present fear of double death due to incarceration #massincarceration#prisonteaching#prison#injustice#justice#transformativejustice#bryanstevenson
