Day 17. Still wet because I’m tired and didn’t want to wait for it to dry. This ink is blackberry, beet, and walnut - all made by my students @marykuvet and @issaclogsdon. It feels fitting that these daily paintings are made with inks that may not hold up to time and light. They serve another purpose than to last. #kimem100days#100dayproject#the100dayproject#naturalink#plantsaremagic
spring has finally sprung!!! thank fuck 🙈
i'm so behind on so much right now, but the sunshine and double digit temperatures (above zero finally) are helping me to stay motivated and not too stressed out. i've got my dye pots going to finish prep for next weekend's #tinycovenspringstudiosale , and tomorrow i'll be doing my first indigo vat of the season. it's so nice to have my vat in the front lawn without it sitting in a huge pile of snow 💙 dipping in and out of doors to get fabric and wool drying in the fresh air is making all the computer work much more bearable. so is having @redmoonroad and @hillsburn on rotating repeat! if you're in the morden/winkler area tonight, @hillsburn will be playing a great show (no pressure guys) before they head to regina and saskatoon. prairie folks, i promise these east coasters will steal your hearts and fill your ears, so go grab some last-minute tickets 😘
okie doke, back to answering emails and voicemails and hopefully finally getting this week's #skslowfashionapril dispatch out to everyone ✨ enjoy your thursday!
Quick lunch at my desk that I prepped earlier in the week 😋
“Fried” cauliflower rice: I riced frozen cauliflower tossed it together and sautéed it in some sesame oil with carrots, onions, scallions, frozen peas, scrambled eggs, ginger and some coconut aminos. Delish! #mostlyplantbased Skip the eggs for #allplantbased
The struggle with making one of a kind pieces is that you want to sell them but also romp around in them all summer. Here a vintage silk slip dyed with cochineal and imbued with the energy of The Magician tarot card. Wear it when you want to feel sexy in red and manifest and create some magic. This and many more will be on sale soon at a special showroom showcase. Swipe to see materials used in this process and stay tuned on when you can get it!
Something to ponder on ➡️ meat is quite literally decaying flesh ➡️ we eat it ➡️ our bodies are on average 37 degrees Celsius ➡️ meat stays in our bodies for on average 2 sometimes 3 days (because we have long digestive systems physiologically similar to herbivores and not carnivores and most omnivores who have short digestive systems) ➡️ what if we left a piece of flesh outside in 37 degrees for 2-3 days...even 1 day! ➡️ meat is quite literally making us sick ➡️ we kill animals ➡️ and in a twist of irony they end up killing us. Stop the cruelty to them, to yourself and to the planet and eat some plants instead 🌿
i'm still recovering from burnout, and unfortunately deadlines that aren't only self-imposed mean i can't just go off the grid for a couple of days. i'm going to work selfcare into my days as much as possible, which means things like using different essential oils to help manage my moods, increasing my water consumption, and doing my best to stay focused on single tasks at a time so that i can be checking them off my to-do list as i go. i'm normally a great multi-tasker, so i know i need to address my anxiety when my brain is getting too scattered to handle 2 or 3 simultaneous tasks. juniper on the back of my neck is helping today 🌿
i'm going to stay on my computer until lunch, and then reward myself by finally doing my birthday tarot pull and working on some of my wips (probably the thrummed mitts, since they need to be ready for my #tinycovenspringstudiosale in a couple of weekends for kits with @longwayhomestead). i'll get the #skslowfashionapril email out today as well, so if you haven't signed up yet, be sure to do that via the link in my profile! there are some lovely wips on the go from participants right now 😊 so tell me, what's your quick go-to trick for selfcare on days where you can't just ghost on life?
I received this beautiful package from @whitepinerising.shoppe
Greatly looking forward to using her plant medicine and adding chaga to my apothecary. I see potent syrups, tinctures, teas & bitters in my future kitchen magic. What are your favorite ways to use or create with Chaga?
So grateful for exchanging with you @whitepinerising 🙏🏼💛 *Stay tuned for her exciting Spring update at the end of April ✨
Happy Wednesday ✨ I’ve made it to day three of solo parenting. School will have an early dismissal due to more snow 🤦🏽♀️ and I have one more bedtime solo. And this morning I woke up feeling a little groggy + congested. Do you know about the magic of thyme? This plant was really calling out to me at the end of last summer to be used and so I experimented with a tincture. This one has been great this winter season for when I’d felt colds coming on. Thyme is a very popular culinary herb, but it also is packed with vitamin C which is great for an immune boost. It is antibacterial + anti fungal. It’s been used for centuries to treat respiratory issues, including bronchitis, whooping cough, sore throat, colds + flus. It’s a wonderful expectorant and helps loosen congestion. I love to add this tincture under my tongue or a few drops in warm water with honey. This year I’m going to try and make a lemon, honey + thyme cough syrup too. 🌿✨ #herbs#greenwitch#kitchenwitch#vibratehigher#herbalism#herbalmedicine#sniffles#holistichealing#remedies#plantsaremagic#thyme#holistic#herbalremedies#wednesdaywisdom#congestion#authenticself
I love everything at high altitude. The strangely shaped wind gnarled trees, the little critters that skitter over the rocks and the small but mighty wildflowers that can survive amongst the toughest of mother nature’s elements. Hoping to get above 14,000 feet more often this summer to share these special places with my little mountain girl.
How gorgeous is this!? I’ve been having a lot of success with this herb for treating pre-menstrual symptoms such as breast tenderness, mood swings, acne and breakouts and irregular cycle length... Can anyone guess what it is? Ps if these symptoms sound like your usual period experience, it doesn’t have to be this way... pain and other symptoms [although very common] are not normal ... I have a Naturopathy appointment available tomorrow at 3pm if you’d like some natural help! •

Turns out the day I decided to go meat and dairy free and follow a #WFPB lifestyle is also Herbalist Day! Coincidence, 🤔 I think not. It's been one year since I made this lifestyle change and I couldn't be happier or feel healthier.
Learning about plants and how they nourish and interact with our bodies in every way is now a passion of mine and I will continue to educate myself and practice the magic of these plants and herbs daily 💫 🌱🌻💚 Can't wait to see where this journey takes me!
Much love to @herbalacademy for this beautiful graphic. Happy Herbalist Day world 😙✌
Process shots of making our newest yarn: Washi. The first color we dyed is exclusively for our Pro-Verbial Club members (Break of Dawn). To create this color we first take the fabric and ombré dye it in a coral-color made of madder and cutch. Then, we accordion pleat the fabric, and clamp it. This is a shibori technique from Japan called ita-jime. Then, we dye it again in a bath of logwood and cutch. Because the base color is ombré, the outline around the edge of the wooden block has a variation in color, adding complexity, depth, and a multitude of tiny little gradients of color. The clamp is removed, we refold the fabric and put the label on. To knit, you simply take the end which unravels easily and knit. The yarn does have a kink. If that bothers you, simply reskein, wash, and knit. The last photo is a sneak peek of what will be released for pre-order tomorrow morning at 10am pst. 💞 #averbforkeepingwarm#avfkwwashi
