Hummingbird (Mississippi Delta)
Contemporary Realism [Earth from Space]
Oil on Canvas (4 feet X 5feet)
Planet Earth Series 1 by Rubina.
The great Mississippi River deposits half a million tons of sediment every day. It creates mud flats and marshes, extending the continent into the ocean. The river’sperpetual deposition compares to the constant fluttering of a hummingbird’s wings.
The Mississippi River drains 40% of the continental US, making it the fourth-largest watershed in the world at 1.2 million square miles. It is home to 60 percent of all Gulf coastal wetlands. The ecological and economic well-being of the five states of the Northern Gulf of Mexico is heavily dependent on a healthy and resilient Mississippi River and Delta. Constant onslaught of hurricanes of increasing intensity has diminished significant areas of this delta. 80% of US coastal wetlands have been lost since 1930. Restoration measures both current and future are most crucial.

“A nomad I will remain for life, in love with distant and uncharted places.” -Isabelle Eberhardt
I have heard it can take up to two hours to get this famous photo of the gates. We got to the Lempuyang temple around 9:30-10am. By the time we got our photo it was around 10:30 and we waited about 30 minutes. We say get there early and get your photo first before you explore!
Think you know your colours? Not till you arrive here! I’m dazzled by how the world-famous Danish-Icelandic artist created a rainbow panorama where it consist a 3m-wide circular walkway made of glass in all colours of the spectrum. This is one chance where you can see the world in different shades of colours. 📸 : @thehypetraveler
I wake up everyday w the intention of making a difference that will better this world. It’s views like these that keep me grounded and connected to that higher intention. We only have one world, one chance and one life to live.
Hang in there Earth. I’m coming for you.
Lil Hawksbill Turtle Buddy 💚
This week I went to visit the Turtle Conservation and Education Centre on Serangan Island. These people do amazing work saving these babies and from being captured and sold on the black market for their meat and their beautiful shells. Sometimes these poor creatures are found hung up by their front fins, deprived of water for weeks - sometimes months - causing them terrible injuries and diseases.
Eating turtle meat dates back centuries in Bali. The people considered it a delicacy that give power and strength, and ensured a long healthy life, since turtles can live up to 150 years. Even the little turtle eggs would be boiled and eaten. Now we know, in fact, that turtle meat and eggs are completely detrimental to health due to their incredibly high fat content and can cause issues like heart failure.
Thankfully the hunt for this endangered species is now illegal and places like this exist, helping to educate both westeners and locals on the tragedy of the turtle trade and how we must actively help them survive, save them from being slaughtered and even conserve their eggs until they hatch to save them from being eaten by other animals.
Reminders keep coming because people keep forgetting. Despite all these calling-for-a-green-world messages, change isn't happening enough, or fast enough. ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
That's why you're seeing this. And that's why we need your help. What we hope for is that when you just share a message on your green efforts, no matter how small, your friends will stop to think for at least a second, about their carbon footprint and impact on this planet.
Amidst the pretence that this is just some fun challenge to win prizes, the true objective we have has always been to prompt some (because we know keenly that reaching "all" is 99.9999% impossible) to consider this world-wide issue. ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
We aren't asking you for a drastic change in your lifestyle - we can't even do it ourselves. We're just asking for you to make tiny, convenient changes that won't even affect you much. Putting a tote bag in your bag for groceries, turning off the lights when you go out, things like that.
That's all we ask, and that might not be enough. But collectively, it'll make a huge difference. Just consider the fact that one medium-sized plastic bag generates about 33g of CO2 and lasts forever, 100 people who opt not to take one would have "saved" 3.3kg CO2, and when more people speak through their actions that demand for plastic bags is now lower, production for them will decrease. ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
Short and snappy to get people's attention has been our publicity strategy so far but sometimes it takes a long post to truly share what we think. To end off, here's just another food for thought for the "why" behind fighting against climate change. We've been blessed enough to be able to ignore this problem, but the children of our generation, and the other beings on this planet home we share... they might not.
