1 cadaver lab and simply keeping up to date with the latest in the science of movement through books, studies and podcasts, the poses are most definitely taught differently.

So here it is in actual time and great exercise to do at home 😁 on your couch 🛋 to strengthen the posterior chain which are weakened from the couch and too much sitting, slouching and bad posture 💥 Also a great routine to open the front body, shoulders, chest, hips quads and to create space for the internal organs. -

The connections we make from having a consistent Pilates practice enables us to experience other forms of movement from a place of stability and confidence. My training in #gyrotonic whilst in Calgary was possible because of my Pilates regime, it allows me to try other forms of exercise safely. This was a wonderful experience ! Thanks again @flowpilatesyyc for your outstanding expertise ! I am looking forward to my gyro practice today on my own tower unit at home ❤️ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

This video is an advanced exercise from the Pilates ladder barrel -- just like every exercise, not for everyone. For my hypermobility and neuroatypical brain, the ladder barrel gives me amazing feedback to understand where I am in space, and helps me actively train my end ranges of motion. There's lots more physical benefits, down to training my foot stability, the first point of balance. .
The metaphysical benefits are enormous. I am working with my body and mind as an integrated unit. As a survivor of multiple traumas and long-term sexual abuse, owning my body is healing and full of reverence for me. I'm not working body parts: I am one organic being with an entire universe within me to explore, in relationship with the space around me. When doing this, I have a single point of focus, fully concentrated. There is nothing else happening besides me and what's happening in this moment. This is a moving meditation, not some party trick. You don't need a flashy ladder barrel move to get to this place. Tiny, subtle movements still find the same little somatic illuminations -- just ask anyone who's tried Feldenkrais! But the video gets attention to get the message across, so here we are. Shrug. .
As for cultural appropriation, that's a two-way street when it comes to 20th century movement development. Joseph Pilates was a contemporary of the three big yoga teachers (Iyengar, Jois, Desikachar) who developed much of the modern "classical" asana. Both groups borrowed their exercises heavily from gymnastics and military exercises. (What's the difference between a sun salutation and a burpee?) Yes, among other things, Jospeh Pilates studied eastern traditions, just as the eastern traditions studied western traditions. Thème du jour : LEG PULL FRONT ❣️
Oui tout ce qui ressemble à une planche j’aime bien en général 😁sauf que dans cette « compet » il faut proposer des variations et forcément un peu de challenge. Je propose le BOSU qui crée une instabilité sur les mains bras épaules donc il faut être encore plus fort et engager les obliques les adducteurs le dos pour stabiliser.
Leg pull front tu es en planche et sans transfert de poids tu lèves une jambe et tu fléchis la cheville de celle au sol pour créer un mouvement d’avant en arrière - du sommet du crâne vers le pied en l’air dans la ligne médiane tu imagines que es tiré par une ficelle d’avant en arrière.
Ici j’ai rajouté un genou poitrine quelques push up (méthode Pilates les coudes près du corps ... oui c’est ça tu as compris c’est balèze) et enfin un chien tête en bas plus simple je l’avoue car les mains sont plus hautes.... idéal pour moi 🙊🙊 Je suis inspirée je dois le dire par les nombreux post en planche de @nancycastiglioni mais aussi de @elisesbodyshop et @ksjbodycontrol.

This is one of my favorites because it targets the whole body! I’m working my core to help balance, my obliques as I roll onto one hip, I’m squeezing my inner thighs targeting those adductors. My arms are working as I rotate and pull the rolldown bar and my QL is firing as I sweep around to the other side! All I need now is water and a boat!!

Day 6 of #7DaysPilatesPlay is Leg Pull Front. Being in plank requires me to put weight on my ankle. Though it’s healing fast and I no longer feel pain, it’s still bruised and unstable. I have a Grade 2 sprain, so recovery time is estimated to be 2-4weeks. Guess a torn ligament will take a while 😤😤😤. So impatient and being in plank is one of my favourite positions to train the core.

As footwork plays a big part of this movement, my modified version with my prop of choice, the #foamroller takes the work out of the feet, but integrates the trunk and shoulder girdle instead. Not a bad trade-off 👌🏻👌🏻 #injurywontstopme 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

I threw @leilaburate under the bus here on this super light spring but she’s rocking it 🙌
We don’t use ¼ spring for standing work in group classes very often because of the high intensity level but it is definitely a great way to progress towards 0 springs 😲
