As we patiently await our tractor to arrive so we can start digging and building our raised beds outside. We have brought out our handy little indoor aquaponic system, that my mother in law bought us for Christmas about 3-4 years ago now. It still works like it’s brand new and we love this little thing. We started the seeds maybe a week and a half or 2 weeks ago and already have some yummy lettuce starting to grow! Just another week or two and it will be ready to start harvesting! The light is adjustable to up to 3 feet so they have plenty of room to grow. These little systems are super interactive and it’s fun to be able to see your plants roots and assess their health whenever you please!
For the past 5 years, I have looked for a special garden canopy that would
1. Allow enough sunlight to come in
2. Keep the insects out AND
3. Have easy access to harvest the plants
This year all the above happened!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 I don’t spray my gardens with any kind of pesticide (including organic pesticides). Leafy greens are hard to grow because the cabbage moths come, lay their little eggs and before you know it, the very hungry caterpillar has eaten your whole plant! I found an amazing canopy a few years ago, that allows sunlight to come in, water in easily, and bugs out but it was a pain to get in and out of. This year I sewed a zipper onto the canopy and I am so excited about the result!! Easy harvesting here I come!!

According to an article recently release by The Guardian, the FDA has been testing different food samples for at least two years now and have found residue of glyphosate. For those of you that don’t know, glyphosate is a common weed killer used in the U.S. which has been linked to causing cancer as well as other long-term health and mental issues.
The FDA has not released any official documents regarding their findings—not surprising—but The Guardian has quoted internal emails among FDA employees. For example, Richard Thompson—a FDA chemist—wrote in one of his emails that he “brought wheat crackers, granola cereal and corn meal from [his] home and there’s a fair amount [of glyphosate] in all of them”. Broccoli was the only item that Thompson had on hand that he found to be glyphosate free. Another FDA chemist, Narong Chamkasem, found dangerous amounts of glyphosate in corn—“detected at 6.5 parts per million, an FDA email states. The legal limit is 5.0 ppm”.
To no surprise when questioned about these findings and internal emails an FDA spokesman said “only that the FDA had not found any illegal levels in corn, soy, milk or eggs...He did not address the unofficial findings revealed in the emails”.
When are we going to demand complete transparency of how our food is grown, raised and produced? When are we going to hold the FDA responsible for continuously poisoning Americans? Enough is enough. We MUST demand that our food be 100% organic and non-gmo with ZERO cancerous pesticides/herbicides being used. If Russia can do it, we can do it—we just have to want it badly enough. Are you willing to compromise your health and overall well being? Because we aren’t!
Sunflowers picked and delivered fresh from the farm this morning! Oh and they are pesticide free. A big thanks to Parap Fine Foods for being the huge local supporters that they are. They have given so many NT business a great start. THANK YOU. 🌻
