Why does life have to be so complicated.......
In horology, a complication refers to any feature in a mechanical timepiece beyond the simple display of hours and minutes. A timepiece indicating only hours and minutes is otherwise known as a simple movement. The more complications in a mechanical watch, the more difficult it is to design, create and assemble.
A grand complication is a watch with several complications, the most complex achievements of haute horlogerie, or fine watchmaking. Although there is no 'official' definition, one common definition is a watch that contains at least three complications.
One of the true greats, the Patek Philippe Reference 1518 was the first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph with moon phases. The Swiss manufacture continued to use its timeless aesthetic as the foundation for a long line of successful and highly sought after complicated wristwatches. In fact, all five representatives of this line, ref. 1518, ref. 2499 (1950s-1980s), ref. 3970 (1990s), ref. 5970 (2000s), and ref. 5270 (currently in production), are considered absolute icons of watch collecting. Beyond being the first of them all, the ref. 1518 is also the rarest of these five references, with an estimated production of 281 pieces overall, so far known in yellow gold, pink gold and stainless steel. The present yellow gold example, made in 1945, is one of the highlights of the HKWA6. Incredibly, it is accompanied with its original warranty Certificate. Only a very slight minority of the known 1518 examples survived through their 80 years of life together with this document. The present ref. 1518 is Lot 985 of the #HKWA6 sale, taking place on May 29, at the @mo_hkg. For more information, please visit the catalogue online.
White gold or pink gold? Our Important Watches this week in #NYC offers the iconic Patek Philippe Ref 5020 in both white gold (one of only 8 known examples) and in pink gold (one of less than a dozen known examples). As an alternative to the classic Ref 3970, Patek first introduced the Ref. 5020 in 1994, but it only began to be appreciated after it ceased production in 2002. In retrospect, this is an iconic reference – also known as the Patek TV set watch – was ahead of its time, and is a trophy for any modern wristwatch collection.

The IWC Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Ref IW502902. I was looking at all the plain janes and thought ... so what is the best Flieger with all the bells & whistles. I don’t really fancy chronograph and I prefer GMT more but when I saw this From a wrist, I declare this is the best one to date that is not a Chronograph. Sadly, it cost too too much for me. And I heard IWC collected back all unsold pieces. Good luck hunting for one. #sg#singapore#iwc#bigpilot#perpetualcalendar#ceramic#titanium
