Our next therapist is Ms Clare! 💕 .
Hi guys, I’m Clare and I’m so excited to share my day in the life of a peds OT! I’ve been a part of the wonderful team at Shining Stars since September 2016. I love OT because of its holistic approach to increasing independence and helping children grow in skills and confidence! Helping kids and their families find unique strategies and tools that work for their life and make a difference is the best part of my job!! Stay tuned to get a taste of what my days are like.... #shiningstarstherapy#pediatricoccupationaltherapy#aprilisotmonth#pediatricoccupationaltherapist
First up is our OT Julie 💕 .
.Hi everyone 👋👋 I am Julie and have been an OT for 10 years. I love working collaboratively with children and their families to reach their maximal potential. There is no greater reward then seeing the smile of a child that had mastered something new for the first time. I love finding new approach angles to treatment and being creative at the same time. The best part of my job is that I get to work with AMAZING kiddos and therapists each and every day. Follow along as I will show you some of my treatments today.....#shiningstarstherapy#pediatricoccupationaltherapy#aprilisotmonth#occupationaltherapy#pediatricoccupationaltherapist

For those who do not what figure ground is...it is being able to focus on a picture with a busy background. Think of if you are looking in a drawer full of silverware and you need a fork, but scattered in this drawer are forks, knives, and spoons. In order to have good figure ground you would have to be able to isolate the fork from the background to find it. Many children have poor figure ground which effects:
-pulling information from a book
-copying from the board in school
-completing their daily activities finding items
-difficulties with reading
So if your child DOMINATES their Easter egg hunt this year--odds are your child has good figure ground skills :) #occupationaltherapy#pediatricoccupationaltherapist#pediatricoccupationaltherapy#pediatrics

Many parents ask what sensory strategies they can implement at home. While there are many tools I can recommend, my #1 suggestion- play outside. Enjoy the natural sensory experiences that are occurring in your backyard! Whether you have access to the snow, beach, dessert, woods, or mountains- you will find that exploration right outside has so many sensory benefits for your child! #playoutside#pediatricoccupationaltherapist#kidsplay#sensoryplay
February was an awesome month for OT activities! We discussed with our students ways to love yourself and had them choose, write or type different ways for our bulletin board, Miss Sarah made slime with the students, and Miss Casey did an awesome dental hygiene lesson with theraputty and legos. We focused on self-esteem, sensory processing, self-care and many other skills! We have lots of great activities in the works for March! Stay tuned! #occupationaltherapy#pediatricoccupationaltherapist
